BE Away Games/Mustang Band

Post by aus10fromhous10 »

I know I'm getting a little ahead of myself, but anybody out there have any insight into how playing away football/basketball games further from home will impact the Mustang Band? Who pays for their travel?

I know they're trying to raise the $$$ to build a new band hall, which combined with joining the BE will hopefully lead to an increase in their numbers, but isn't that a double-edged sword...more musicians means increased travel costs, right?

I believe the band is administratively a part of student affairs, so their budget comes from that department

I hope you're right. I had a lot of friends that were in the band, so I feel like I had a good perspective on the commitment they put into participating, which I genuinely respect.

That said, the band has always seemed kind of rinky-dink to me, mainly because it's a pretty small group and they don't really do a lot of the typical marching/formations you see out of other univ. bands.

I really hope the move to the BE is a boost for the band and not just a drain on what seems to be limited resources. I mean seriously...the band is like the only group on campus that has to beg for $3 million for a new building. If there was the right kind of push from the right people, the band would have their building funded and whatever other resources they need.

Its much more important to transform the locker room into a strip club than it is to upgrade the decades old band hall/natatorium basement.

I've had a couple of responses deleted lately.

Granted, they probably deserved it.

And yes, you are likely losing your mind.

Thank god. The Mustang Band is unique. Glad we are not subjected to a UIL marching contest show when our band takes the field. Have you seen Tulsa? TCU? Baylor? UTEP? We're not like everyone else... and that is a good thing. UBU.

FIFY...FYI here's the code so it doesn't look like I said that:

This. I really enjoy watching our band. Although, I will admit: I got a little sick of Jai Ho this year. Besides that though, they are awesome.

They should borrow some songs from the alumni band. They seem to have a whole bunch of songs on the boulevard compared to the couple the actual band plays every game.

Song suggestions may be sent to [email protected] or [email protected].

As for me, In all my years we tried to play the most entertaining songs from our collection which sometimes has been pop hits. The alumni band has some older tunes that I had never heard before I joined them and the songs are quite good.

BE Away Games/Mustang Band

I really like the style of the band, but it's obvious when you look at performances from the 80's that things have gone downhill.

And yes, how many seasons are we going to be hearing Jai Ho? It's ridiculous. That song was barely relevant when that movie had just come out.

Locker rooms attract recruits. Band Halls do not.
