'Prolific offensive attacks' ?? How about just scoring some TDs. JR you are not the problem but many on the staff aren't carrying their load- especially when it comes to recruiting.

Re: JEFF REINEBOLD WED AM
I do remember the days went our offense was one running back getting the ball about 50 times a game. And we had to record to prove that we couldn't do anything else.

Was Tom Rossley's Run-n-Shoot offense more prolific than what June has had while at SMU? Certainly the "W's were not there....but the offense certainly seemed more exciting.

Re: JEFF REINEBOLD WED AM
I remember going to Utah to see SMU play BYU when Rosseley was the coach. I was living in Crested Butte, CO at the time. I knew our trainer well from the Dave Smith days. We were in the same hotel as the SMU team and Cash introduced us to Jim Copeland who could not have been more gracious. We rode to the game with Jim and another SMU guy. We had a QB named Flanigan and out R&S offense consisted of Ramon dropping back to throw and then scrambling for his life. SMU was never in the game. Of course BYU had better athletes than SMU but our offense was hopeless. I have no faith whatsoever in the R&S and it's shortcomings are exacerbated by the modern defenses today which feature more speed and are designed to stop the pass.
Having said all that I do believe that JJ and his staff have made us better but ( as I have said ad nauseum) they are not the final answer and we will never be top 25 consistently unless JJ changes his offense to make the defenses have to account for the QB as a runner.
It looks as if UH will hire Sonny Dykes and that is probably bad news for SMU. He may be better than Sumlin was.

Pretty much what I remember, and when he did have time to throw, it was more or less like watching a game of 500 with guys wearing pads.

Re: JEFF REINEBOLD WED AM
Of course you can't compare the Rosseley days to June's run and shoot because Rosseley could not get hardly any talent in school because of the recruiting restrictions at SMU in those days. He had one decent year in 1992 going 5-6 in the SWC with victories over Arkansas(away), Houston, and TCU at home. Now, considering the talent level, that was impressive.

Rosseley also beat Arkansas in 1995. Arkansas went on to win the SEC West that year but lost the SEC Championship game to Florida. Rosseley's did not win an SWC game that year and was fired at the end of the season.

Re: JEFF REINEBOLD WED AM
I always thought Rossley was a pretty decent coach. As has been said- he had one hand tied behind his back because of the restrictions. It would be interesting to see what he could do with our talent today and what he could recruit under the 'new environment

That's not right. Rossley was the coach in 96 as well and won 5 games, including Arkansas for the 2nd year in a row. Cavan took over in 97. Cavan then almost made a bowl game in 97 with Rossley's recruits, but lost to winless TCU in the last game, and came up one game short.
