Nice to see that some coaches really appreciate the staff that work for them.

Re: Richt is a Stud
Maybe a concern about a Baylor situation. Remember Dave Bliss allegedly paid players with his own money for tuition to get them to serve a one year transfer year when there were no Basketball scholarships availiable. I think 2 of the kids he paid were the shooter and the player killed. NCAA is always concerned about any funds flowing from Coaches or personnel from outside sources not coming from audited university funds. You can criticize the NCAA but those funds could just as easy be slush fund repayments. All athletic related funding should come directly through approved university accounts so irregularities can be monitored as part of institutional control procedures. Probably should have made donations to Bulldog Club first and have them disburse funds for specific donation purpose. Plus he would have gotten tax deduction.

Re: Richt is a Stud
My guess is the concern that the coach is reimbursing others for payments made to recruits or players. I really do not think it is that big of a deal. They investigated and wrote a letter. No real punishment.

Word from a compliance person-- the NCAA believes coaches' pay should be a matter of institutional control. (No word on why they believe that.) But, all Richt had to do was give the money back to the school and have the school disperse it, at his direction.

Re: Richt is a Stud
I understand the concern from the NCAA that the funds are being disbursed to illegitimate ends and without university control, but in this instance, Richt actually informed the school what he was doing with the funds, which is why UGA didn't think there was anything wrong with it.
Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.

May have to do with tax sequences too ie independant contractors etc. Did Richt take out social security , fica, unemployment, disability, retirement? Nice gesture but there is a reason for rules. Or did he just write em a check or give them cash?
