Your chance to see Taiwan Johnson & Glynn Cheeks

Postby Mitch McConnell » Sat Dec 10, 2011 4:20 pm

Manvel just rallied to beat CC Calallen in the 4A Division II state semifinals, 31-28.

Manvel meets Aledo for the state championship at noon Saturday at Cowboys stadium.

Should be a great game. And if nothing else, you get to see the one the greatest backs in Texas high school football history in Johnathan Gray.

Johnson and Cheeks would be great additions.

BTW, Calallen's postseason misery in the state semifinals continues. Blew a 28-21 lead and I think has lost in the semis in 9 of its last 10 trips? BTW, they lost on a 28-yard field goal on the last play -- an untimed down. There was a PF that moved the ball half the distance bc the 38 attempt missed.

Tough loss.

3 nites ago he said he was in the process of setting up a visit to SMU along with Glenn Cheeks-too bad. That was the first mention I had heard about Glenn Cheeks in months since he committed to AF. Wonder if they still visit

He was pretty impressive in person. If you know your HS football history, this duo reminds me of the bookend DEs at San Antonio Roosevelt and Sulphur Springs in the mid-1990s.

The play that struck me was in the third quarter. Aledo tried to run a jet sweep, Johnson tackled the Aledo RB Caleb Frysinger (who is pretty fast and I hope has another growth spurt in him), stripped him of the football and came up with the FR.

They have the kind of frames where they can add more and probably not lose a step.

I say we get rid of the football team. Now that Johnson committed to Arky our next 4 years are shot. No chance any program can come back from something like this.

This is the time of year that a bunch of kids that claim outdated BCS offers get let loose by the Top teams and start looking around. You watch there will be some new names come up whose sights have been lowered and who have to let go of their dream school. A school like SMU needs to be prepared to jump in and get a few
