in the DMN today, Patterson said TCU lost to 2 pretty darn good football teams early in the season. Still pulling the rope for SMU

A crowd of around 25,000 is expected for Wednesday’s game between Louisiana Tech and Texas Christian.
If that holds true, it could be the smallest attendance in the seven-year history of the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.
But that doesn’t faze Bruce Binkowski, the game’s executive director. Even though his game could have picked San Diego State (8-5) instead of TCU (10-2) and sold more tickets, he points out that the bowl’s mission is to fill hotel rooms in San Diego during the week before Christmas.
"The Christmas week is slowest week of the year for tourism," Binkowski said. "We felt this was an opportunity to put people in hotel rooms during the slowest time of year, with the understanding that every now and then that San Diego State would have the opportunity to play. But we never ever started this game with the assumption that this would be San Diego State’s personal bowl game."
...
The San Diego Bowl Game Association runs the Poinsettia and Holiday bowls and receives about $400,000 a year from the Tourism Marketing District, funded by the city’s biggest hotels. In exchange for that money, the hotels want rooms filled.
Binkowski said Wednesday’s crowd is about what was expected. Both teams were required to buy ticket allotments of only 3,000, down from previous Poinsettia requirements of 7,500. TCU has sold its allotment. Louisiana Tech still has tickets left.

Re: TCU-LaTech
So a small school with 7-8K undergraduates did not sell their allotment to a drivable bowl game against a quality opponent? Hmm.

That has to be the smallest bowl ticket allotment I've ever heard of. 3k tix is a lot less money to eat if you can't sell 'em.

Anybody who is rooting against a small, Texas, private, religiously affiliated school that we beat this year should have their head examined. Especially since they're playing land grant U.

I hate, hate, hate those frogs, and if they lost tonight and we win our bowl game, maybe
we could win a recruiting battle or two.
