I really thought he deserved to be named head coach at Houston, so landing him as offensive coordinator to help jumpstart our offense and improve our Texas recruiting (Houston especially) and potentially succeed June Jones as our head coach would be amazing! We still need an ace recruiter for the Dallas area but this would be a big first step.

Additionally, he may be the one guy that can talk Marks and Lewis off the ledge!

June has always called his own plays, he'll go to his grave with a headset on and a call sheet in hand. Phillips will be OC in name only much like he was at Houston.

I would be thrilled with this, but Houston fans don't think it's over.

Just thinking about the doomsdayers that predicted that we'd fall off the face of the football earth and cease to exist without Klemm (NickSMU17, others) and it looks like we might do even better. Funny how that works out, eh?

Without cause for concern and heightened sense of urgency we would do just that. And we still may, until its a done deal

Excellent point.

Love it, can't be proven wrong with that argument. "with klemm gone, we will just hire an old retread, this is terrible" becomes "well, if we had not panicked then we would have hired an old retread"

It is funny, I recall June saying at the luncheon that if he lost anyone he felt like he would hire someone better. I do not know enough to say whether Phillips would be better (although I do like the idea of a good Texas recruiter of course), but plenty on here seem to think he is better. Wonder if we will much people giving June credit, or if many will try to take some of the credit for themselves with the logic I mentioned in the first paragraph.
