Kyle Padron updates his health, future
Talked to Kyle Padron to clear up speculation about his medical status and his future. Some notes:
• He'll be back next year. Not going anywhere.
• His back is feeling better. Contrary to some speculation, he was at practice a couple of times during the week before players went home for the holiday .... he just didn't participate in practice, watching from the sideline in sweats. He said he the plan with his back involves a program of rest and rehabilitation, in an effort to negate the need for surgery.
• Padron will undergo surgery Wednesday morning to repair the torn joint capsule he suffered in the Mustangs' 2010 game at East Carolina. The injury bothered him through the end of last season, limiting his mobility somewhat. The injury was diagnosed late enough that he didn't undergo surgery, for fear that he might not be ready for the 2011 season, choosing instead to have the ankle wrapped and endure the pain throughout the season. When J.J. McDermott was promoted to the starting lineup, Padron kept practicing and working out, in case he was put back in the lineup. Only after the back injury officially ended his season was the ankle surgery scheduled. Padron received no strict timetable for his recovery, meaning his status for spring workouts remains up in the air. But he said he fully anticipates being ready to play for the Ponies in 2012.

Good news. Glad he's getting that ankle taken care of, glad the back is feel better, and glad he's staying at SMU.
Good luck, Kyle. Here's to a speedy recovery.

good deal-seemed to be a lot of people were saying he was "done" without stating a factual basis. That sucks-glad he cleared it up. There is no reason that Kyle Padron can't be an All Conference type QB

Re: Kyle Padron updates his health, future
I personally believe he got a big screw job when June pulled him from the A&M game. He leads us to the first bowl victory around here in 25 years, leads us to another bowl game, and then gets yanked after a few bad throws against A&M. Shame on you June Jones. We are glad to have Kyle a part of this team.

Gilbert or no Gilbert, this is GREAT news.
I'd love to see what a fully healthy, fully mobile Kyle can do at QB for the Mustangs! Good luck!

Re: Kyle Padron updates his health, future
Not only did he lead us to back-to-back bowl games, and not only is his name all over the school record book, but he could not have been classier about the change in QBs this year. He could have complained, or he could have pouted and shut it down to to get that ankle fixed, but he didn't -- he gritted it out for a whole season knowing he might spend the whole season as a back-up?
What we have here is an exceptionally professional, classy young man ... who also happens to be a pretty talented quarterback.
All the best, Kyle.

it looked like it took him a week to get over the shock of not starting but after that he seem to handle it well. It was odd the McD seemed to fall apart after KP was injured. Bad timing.
Looking forward to good QB play next season.
Go KP

Go Ponies!!

Re: Kyle Padron updates his health, future
Glad to see some reasons for his slump. I'll bet that ankle without him complaining was causing him to not completely follow through on his throws and causing him to be inaccurate or soft on passes. Hope he comes back and kicks opponents butts all year long.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Re: Kyle Padron updates his health, future
Great news. Kyle is a winner. It will be great to have him on the team either as the starter or backup. With our schedule next year and the inexperienced O line it is almost a certainty that we will need to be 2 or 3 deep at QB.
Re: Kyle Padron updates his health, future
A healthy Padron is a valuable asset to our team. I'm still under the impression that we could have won 9 games with him this season (assuming he didn't have that lingering ankle issue).
