A new place
My wife and I feel like leaving Dallas. What is the greatest place to go? No New York/LA, and it'd be hard to justify living among yankees.

Atlanta's pretty nice- but a bit more expensive than Dallas.

To relocate. Ultimately it's going to come down to where we can find good employment, but I'd like to hear others opinions on good places to be.

I enjoyed my two year stint in the Seattle area. Got homesick for Dallas though.

What do you and your wife do for a living?
Why do you want to relocate?
What do you not like about Dallas?
What are you looking for in a place to live?

Good q's - also agree that Charleston is a good place to live. Looking for cheap real estate- might try some of the cities in Fla.- Tampa, Orlando etc.

Re: A new place
We're both engineers - I'm electrical in the MEP consulting industry and she's environmental in water resources, although for you hiring types out there I think we'd both freely change industries if the money and environment was there.
We want to move because we were both born and raised in the Dallas area and graduated from SMU, so we never really left "home" in Dallas, and although we like Dallas, we want to change that. Also, Dallas has too many relatives a little too close for our tastes.
I have an 18 month old and another on the way, so we are looking for a quality place to raise a family with decent career possibilities. Our entertainment interests are diverse, so we aren't tied to anything specific like a major downtown area, skiing, etc.

Sounds like you two need to move to the bay area. Lot's of engineering and tree hugging environmental types. And wine.

no income taxes= Texas, Florida, Nevada. others?
You might like Reno/ Lake Tahoe area. Very beautiful- I almost bought a second home there (many yrs ago) and of course now I am very glad that I didn't.

Not a popular choice I'm sure, but I like the summerlin area near Vegas. Out by red rock, master planned, not deserty like the rest of the place. TPC too. Plus, you can fly anywhere from LAS.
