For all of you who told me I was crazy and insane for looking past JJ and wanting someone new please explain this whole "June Jones is the coach of the future" to me. June is a great at bringing a program out of the dead but that is all he's got. He knows it, I know it, SMU knows it, and I hope you all finally agree. Hopefully this contract blunder could end up changing his "I don't give a [deleted]" attitude on the sidelines and get our team motivated again. If he doesn't produce this year then he won't get hired at a descent school again, but If he does produce then we'll attract a top talent coach. We'd have to pay $2.5 to $3.5 for a real coach.

Actually. I just graduated in may. Wasn't really big into SMU athletics in undergrad but have been active since.

Have always read PF but didn't really post until recently.

It took Meyer five years (with significantly better recruiting tools) to build a sustainable top notch program. Jones has done a very good job in 4 years. And he still needs a couple of years to get to the sustainable situation. It takes an immense effort to recruit, coach and produce on the field great players. They simply don├óΓé¼Γäót just magically appear. Ask James and Dickerson, they just didn├óΓé¼Γäót walk on the field and instantly SMU won. Those guys had to work their tails off (as all players did). The work involved is incredible and it does take time.

I am amazed at how quickly and how well Jones has done. We don├óΓé¼Γäót have the best talent on the field compared to many of our opponents. We do have inexperienced players all over the field at any given time. And yet, Jones and his staff have managed to put us in a bowl for 3 straight years and came within one game of a conference championship. We seem to be complaining about a cornucopia of success because it isn├óΓé¼Γäót as much success as our fantasies desire. Chill on the fantasy and accept the reality. We are not there yet. We are getting there much quicker than we could reasonable expect.

Good point pneyte. Plus, Meyer had the advantage of the swc and SMU's position in it. Being in a non bcs conference is a big hurdle for us.
