Not to mention a unique "recruiting budget" that June does not have at his disposal. I agree with Ponyte on this; SMU football came very far, very fast compared to where it was, and I think the Big East move only improves that upward trend.

Yes, lets personally bash relatively new posters who voice any semblance of discontent. Good job. IMO disgruntled new posters are a good thing because they represent the sports-interested student and casual Dallas fan that we've been fighting to attract: they've followed bigger, better programs growing up but have taken an interest in SMU and want to be part of its growth. They have high standards for SMU...good.
I have never discounted what JJ has done to move us out of the depths of football hell, but to me he never came off as a guy that is loyal or ever wanted to be loyal. To act unexpected about JJ trying to move to the next bigger and better job is naive, that was my whole agruement with the JJ supporters. We got left holding the bag this year but 2013 is a new conference and hopefully a new year. All of those posters that only care about the length of tenure on this board; you will lose fans with that attitude. And no, I don't have two accounts on ponyfans

And he still needs a couple of years to get to the sustainable situation. It takes an immense effort to recruit, coach and produce on the field great players. They simply don’t just magically appear. Ask James and Dickerson, they just didn’t walk on the field and instantly SMU won. Those guys had to work their tails off (as all players did). The work involved is incredible and it does take time.
I am amazed at how quickly and how well Jones has done. We don’t have the best talent on the field compared to many of our opponents. We do have inexperienced players all over the field at any given time. And yet, Jones and his staff have managed to put us in a bowl for 3 straight years and came within one game of a conference championship. We seem to be complaining about a cornucopia of success because it isn’t as much success as our fantasies desire. Chill on the fantasy and accept the reality. We are not there yet. We are getting there much quicker than we could reasonable expect.

Meyer actually had some fairly decent talent holding over from the Dave Smith era. Still, we lost to the likes of Memphis State and simply could not compete with the top half of the SWC until his fifth year. Meyer started winning when he was able to get some depth out of his recruiting. Being in a BCS conference puts us in a position to get that depth.
And BTW, we "stole" Dave Smith, Ron Meyer, Bobby Collins, and June Jones from programs that they built into successes. Those of you who worry about loyalty are following the wrong sport. It is a business and the schools have no more loyalty to the coaches than the other way around.
I am pleased with our success of the last three years but not satisfied, and although i agree it takes time I think there should be progress being made on the recruiting front that i dont see yet, so that is concerning.
I was coming to games when we had 0 - fer seasons - so i will be a fan no matter what - but most people are not like me - we cant build this without important wins against meaningful opponants
I dont think there is anything wrong with pointing out that we should be aiming higher then "almost" champions of a weak conference - we are a program that should be going to the next level and if Jones is not the guy to get us there we don't need to show him any more loyalty then he has shown us - we should do what is best for SMU. I could see that happening sooner rather then later - and with Jones money or more to get the next guy we will be just fine.

I hope that our goal is to build a program that competes on a level that will make us a contender for national championship.
To otterbanjogotcha_dickface, there is only about 20 of you actively on this board. I'll leave, stop buying season tickets, and I do everything in my power to smear the SMU program if you all don't start excepting new people on the board. I was a Mustang before many of you started high school and after witnessing the Rice game there isn't too many of us real fans that show up to the game
Let me claify, I was kicked out of my old account and I don't have access to that account again. I have only 1 account, otterbanjogotcha is probably either you or some other [deleted] that you find exceptable to allow into your tree-house.
