I know I'll get bashed for saying this, but we should be playing UNT every year. Good crowds, local game, etc.

We complain about attendance but that game would boost it every year. Closest possible way game as well.

Not saying UNT is a cupcake, but we do need 2-3 cupcakes each year with 1 "big challenge" outside our conference but with a big regional attendance draw each year IMHO (I liked our schedule a lot this year) ...

Agreed.

I don't like Baylor on our schedule. TCU, yes. A&M? OK. Baylor doesn't do anything for us. They are very good even without RG3 and even if we beat them it won't create a national stir like it does when we beat TCU each year. Would rather have another cupcake than Baylor. We have our challenge game with A&M and the rest of our conference. (I don't see TCU as our big 'challenge' game each year).

This is not a position of need at UNT currently and I would much rather the ship go to someone that has a chance to see the field. UNT returns a freshmen that started every game at LT this season and next year adds SO. transfer Cam Feldt the No. 93 rated player in the county and a top 10 OT. Walling had an offer from KSU for about two minutes but they pulled it, only other offers are from UNT and Marshall. Hope he chooses SMU and can get on the field there.

If he was really the 93rd best player and a top ten OT then he would have been All Sec at arkansas instead of riding pine. Thats what he was expected to do out of HS but came nowhere close, to expect that kind of player would be foolish.

SMU Fans for over 1 year want to play Baylor. Baylor will sell out. The SMU/Baylor series is one game our alumni actually care about. The SMU/Baylor series has arguably been the most competitive, entertaing series in SMU Football history. Some people don't get it. SMU alumni want to play relevant opponents or they will not show up. The opinions of Fans that have followed SMU for 1 year really don't amount to much some times.

I know what Cam Feldt was rated out of HS, I don't need your link. My point is that obviously he is nowhere near that level of a talent. Arkansas straight up pulled his scholarship. He was never ever going to see the field there so they told him to take his lack of talent elsewhere.

They were, it happens all the time. It is a fact that Arkansas pulled his scholarship, if you don't believe me do a quick internet search. He may pan out to be something at UNT but the fact is that Arky did not think he was worthy of one of their 85 scholarships.

Wow...thanks Stallion. Glad to know my opinion means nothing. Will the series be so awesome when Baylor wins 6 (or more) out of 8? I'm sure it was a great series when you were on an equal playing field (in the same conference and playing players), but now?

A little harsh there Stallion (and personal). I've been a fan since I attended SMU in the late 80s/early 90s and I don't know ANYONE who gives a [deleted] about Baylor. I totally agree with Cox. I'm not necessarily scared to play them either but it doesn't really do much for us either way IMHO. Now, we can agree to disagree but no need to get personal. I'm just stating my opinion on the matter that could absolutely be incorrect. Is it really that popular of a series? Would be better to keep A&M or even add UT instead.

After next year we need to start scheduling OOC games like any other BCS team would. And not like some desperate non BCS team trying to play every BCS team it can on it's OOC hoping to get one win 1 out 3 because they are in a non BCS conference.

What is really dumb are two guys who have never seen SMU compete at a high level against our natural and traditional rivals wanting to throw away a rivalry that has lasted over a period of 100 years so that they can get all giddy about playing Stephen F. Austin before 15,000 actual fans. If you were in Amon Carter Stadium last October and felt the feeling of actuallly beating a team you care about before a full house then remember that feeling and tell me I'm wrong. Remember the pride you felt when discussing your university with family and friends in the community. The last time Baylor played at Ford-even when SMU sucked-was a great college environment. Full house, large traveling contingents, great atmosphere on the Boulevard, two bands and exciting game that came down to the wire. Big Time College Football-not the crap we get when a school buys multiple body-bag wins against Whatsamatter U. so that they can go to the UHaul Bowl in Birmingham or the Tidy Bowl in Mobile at 6-6 to play before 8,000 fans. SMU must maintain its rivalries against teams its own fans care about. Luckily I think Orsini gets that and has attepted to schedule those types of games. They won't get that feeling from a victory over a SINGLE BIG EAST TEAM. Quite frankly neither of you 2 know jack about SMU if you don't understand this

I completely agree with your second to last sentence (which is why I was always against us joining the BE). But, again, why the personal attacks?

I want WINS, however I can get them. If that means, right now, stacking the schedule with no name cupcakes OUTSIDE of our conference schedule and 1 'big local game' outside of TCU then so freakin' be it! This is NOT the SMU of the early 80s when we had mostly a starting roster of 4-5 star level talent. Not yet. We need our rep back and that only comes from WINS. Every time we played Baylor, when I was there, we got creamed and no one cared about Baylor. I'd rather be sitting at 8-1 and then playing A&M or UT (or TT or whomever else that will be a big draw and possibly get us on national TV) than maybe a big win here or there but still sitting at 6-6 because we played 5 nationally ranked teams. 7-5 doesn't do it. A couple of years of 11-1, 10-2 DOES which will attract more higher talented recruits (especially by getting into a high profile bowl and that kind of record could). THEN you can put more high ranking teams on your schedule (maybe aTM AND UT).

I totally agree with Stallion on this. I want wins, but I want exciting, packed house wins against rival competition.

Can we recuit better in the Big East with a couple OOC wins vs garbage teams, or with a couple losses/occasional wins against teams people care about OOC?
