Where is the extension?
Putting aside the question of whether he deserves one or the terms fe a moment, why has there been no discussion of extending June's contract?
Note that UT is extending Mac Brown even though he has 5+ years on his deal. Why? To silence the discussion he is leaving.
The same logic applies to June. An extension to put to rest the perception he is trying to get out.
Bennett's last extension was largely a paper tiger. The same can be applied to June. Add 2 years; reduce the buyout for those years to little money; make sure there is a reasonable buyout for him to leave in the future.
We are a private school and never have To release the terms. I don't see why this hasn't happened yet.

Where is the extension?
Again, they can make a meaningless extension for appearances. Why haven't they?

Great I'm excited to join an AQ conference and get shoved into the middle of the pack with our savior June "sweet baby jesus" Jones

Re: Where is the extension?
He doesn't deserve an extension based on his Royal Screw-up. The C of C would simply be bidding against themselves because he is overpaid based on the Market as it is. I don't think there is a single BCS job on the West Coast that would or is in a position to hire him for the forseeable future. The Arizona St and Arizona jobs were probably his last chances to get a decent west coast BCS job. And Arizonans apparently were 98% against him. He's old and not a Hot Property. About his only shot at a west coast BCS job might be Oregon St where Mike Riley may end up getting fired.

Re: Where is the extension?
That is not what he is saying. Whether or not he stays or goes will have nothing to do with the contract. You merely extend it in order to give the appearance of a long term relationship regardless of whether or not the internal knowledge is that he will be gone next year. Whereas recruits can adjust accordingly to coaching changes, they may be hesitant to commit to a school with an openly unknown future.

that Pandora's Box has already been opened by Jones himself-a piece of paper ain't going to change that. Maybe he ought to donate to the IPF-I'm serious that would do more to show his commitment than anything on SMU's side. Commitment is a two way street-and the side at issue is June Jones

Yeah, but maybe Leigh could pay his rent if there was an e tension.

Re: Where is the extension?
I agree any contract extension would mean C of C bidding against themselves. Until we make a serious BCS run or win a conference championship, JJ is simply another old coach with a decent history as far as west coast schools are concerned. There is no question of our commitment to JJ, there is plenty of question of his commitment to us. He at this point will need to show that commitment in order to attract the quality of recruits needed to rise to that next level to get noticed. Chicken meet egg.
