Former big time UT WR Darius White to SMU?

White joined the Longhorns from Ft Worth Dunbar with high expectations. He was named to the PARADE All-America football team coming out of high school and he was also tabbed first-team All-USA by USA Today. Would he be so good here at SMU?.....

I believe UT says it would contest any transfers to schools still in Big 12 until May-so I'm not sure he can go to either A&M or Missouri-might go to Conference and NCAA office for interpretation

Mack didn't address Darius White specifically, but he did address if any player from Texas wanted to transfer to Texas A&M or Missouri, they'd probably have to wait until July of 2012 to do it.

That's because those schools are still members of the Big 12 until then, and Big 12 rules stipulate that a player has to sit out two years if they transfer to a school in conference.

Mack pointed out that a kid could transfer to TCU or West Virginia right now (before July2012) and only have to sit out one year because those schools are not currently in the Big 12 (even though they are coming).

....but reading that again he just may mean that they could transfer for Fall 2012 and sit out a year. He seems to be saying if they transferred this next semester they would have to sit for 2 years

What are the rules concerning 'recruiting' a player from another school that announces that he wants to transfer? Does the player have to contact the school or what?

Well I guess if he waits that long (July 2012 to transfer) when he could come to SMU now and only sit one season it probably means he is not coming to SMU IMO.

here's his stats-6 catches-I think he just wanted more playing time and he was being passed in depth chart by younger players. Since he signed Texas redirected its offense to a run-first offense
so that could be a factor especially with No. 1 RB in Country coming in next year
