Well it should be pointed out that the majority of non-BCS schools who made it to BCS games have accorded themselves very well-thank god-except for one that was blown out and was physically mismatched. TCU (2) wasn't, Utah (2) wasn't, Boise St (2) wasn't. The Run and Shoot was manhandled. Perhaps that team was one of the most overrated teams in -forever.

The RedGun was dismantled by a talent rich defensive front (and their pass rush) against a below average offensive line at Hawaii.

Didn't Hawaii beat Washington that year? Not a dominant team but a solid BCS team with a rich history and excellent recruiting base.

So will SMU and Houston become real rivals now? TCU is a decent one, but we need a true in-conference rival.

Hawaii did beat Washington in 2007. Washington finished 4-9 and actually finished in last place in the PAC

They did play UW, but every team (including LA Tech, SJSU, UI, NV, etc) they played was able to beat Hawaii's tackles (Keoni Steinhoff and Keith Ah-Soon). The 2006 OL was awesome, one of the best in UH's history; After losing 3 linemen to the NFL the 2007 line was patchwork at best.

my point was they (new A&M coaches) will have to find a way to run the ball more then they have at Houston vs SEC teams so they can play keep away from the SEC offenses - otherwise they will be run off the field. Had Hawaii had more of a run option it would not have changed the outcome, but perhaps would have been less embarrassing - if nothing else just by not being three and out as often. Balanced offenses do better vs dominant defenses then unbalanced offenses.

However we might still be looking for a coach so i guess i should be thankful.

I was really tiered of hearing, before the game, how mighty the Penn St defense was. Well, UH cut right through them.

Who said Penn state had a tough D? Most knowledgeable football people just see the Big 10 label next to their name and you just know they suck. Now if you want to see exactly what I am talking about just pick a defense from any of the top 5 SEC teams and see how UH does with them - hint....not well.

Everyone is swinging from the SEC's [deleted] nowadays. Wasn't too long ago everyone was saying the same thing about the Big 10. Bama's 2nd biggest win of the season, the first being Arkansas, was Penn State. I'm not saying the SEC isn't good but they aren't the be all end all. How about some of those SEC schools play more than 1 team a year that can put up more than 24 on the board.

...and they never will again. This is a long range demographics shift that even the Big 10 knows is trending strongly against the Big 10 in competitiveness in College Football. Not enough Jimmies and Joes

If memory serves me correct, Hawaii actually had to play catch up. At one point, I think they were down 21.

Just to keep derailing the thread. The Big 10 was pretty dominate in the late 90s. I agree with the demographic shift. Same could be said that the PAC 12 will only get better as their demographics work for them much in the same way it does for the SEC and with the new infusion of cash they can finally begin to pull big named coaches that direction. Just tired of hearing about how the SEC is the bees knees this year. Last year yes, this year its a solid conference but again Alabama's 2nd best victory was against a toothless Nittany Lions team.

OK back on subject. Come on Jason Phillips!!
