Don't believe all the negative rumors - other schools jealous we got a great player - coaches do their homework and would not bring in a player that would not fit in with team on and off the field - this guy put up incredible stats so he must have a lot of talent - he should compete right away for playing time
Re: Dieter commits
I missed watching the game does any one have video of him commiting

Br careful what you wish for, Billy Joe. The kid has mashed potatoes between his ears. I'll bet anyone a Benjamin (even odds) that he will either quit or be booted out of school before the end of his freshman year. Sorry Coach Jones wasted a scholarship on an overrated, overhyped pile of pony droppings.

Are you a Jayhawk fan? If so, please don't come on an SMU board with an SMU-themed name and bash one of our new recruits. Represent your school and your opinion honestly.
Pretty crass comment about having "mashed potatoes between his ears". No kid deserves that type of damning unless you've had significant interaction with him, enough to form that opinion. I'm guessing you haven't. Twitter/Facebook don't count.

Re: Dieter commits
I doubt the story that the injury is a cover for suspension because he was complaining about his knee hurting the Nite BEFORE he even traveled to the game. I'm more concerned that a kid has been playing with an injury for so long. He wasn't fast to begin with.

Very well said. It's sad people feel the need to be this crass. If you're an SMU fan then be happy we got a good recruit and wish him the best in his career here at the Hilltop. If you're not an SMU fan, then don't come on here and bash our recruits. Show some class.

That is my concern as well.

Re: Dieter commits
if he is indeed enrolling next semester he should have plenty of time to recover or even have surgery if necessary. Seems like he would redshirt for a year anyway, given the time needed to learn this offense as a wr

All recruits are a crapshoot. Some less than others. The good thing with this one is that other than costs of recruiting visits we got some free national publicity that for a school with no athletic marketing department is big.

Re: Dieter commits
quick question for any recruiting guru out there:
this kid seems legit, named a freakin' HS all american, but is listed as the #104 wr recruit on scout. What gives??
I know there are differences between the recruiting services...but this seems pretty extreme.
Happy to have him here at SMU!

SouthBender:
"Local buzz suggests that Dieter did not "injure" his knee Tuesday ... the West coaching staff benched him for insubordination. Apparently, he arrived in Phoenix with a raging case of Egomania (as in, "I am the best WR in the history of football). Funny thing is, every time he had a poor stat night this season, Dieter would blame it on his gimpy knee. I have attended over 30 of his HS games and I can positively assert that he is nothing more than a creation of his daddy's hype machine (the old man has a huge ego too). The majority of his stats, including the 447 yard national record breaker, were posted against pathetic teams. And many of the yards were accumulated when Washington HS was ahead by 40 or more points. Oh yeah ... Dieter's typical pass route? Run a 40 yard post pattern, stop and wave his arms. He'd then out jump 2 or 3 midget DBs for the dying quail. The only reason SMU was suckered into offering him a scholarship is WR coach Jeff Reinebold (a South Bend native) happens to be good pals with Daddy Dieter. Bottom line is, the narcissistic kid will crash and burn in Ponyland. You Jayhawk fans should rejoice."
Stl.Pony said something similar was on another KU message board. Well of it is true this should humble him. We also saw Dieter at the 7 on 7 at SMU this summer. They said he could really catch but just did not have a lot of speed. Also, I know we are trying to get his teammate David Perkins who is highly recruited and this could help.
Yeah I saw the same idea in the 900 page discussion on the Notre Dame board. That said, most 17-18 year old males are total idiots (I sure was one). He'll mature in his first two years of college just like most people.

Re: Dieter commits
He looks like he's got a sneaky kind of speed because of his long easy gait. Vince Young had kind of a similar style were he looked like he was jogging but he was breezing by everyone who was trying to tackle him. I think Vince only ran a 4.4-4.5 but made top athletes at USC and OU look silly slow. Some people have that ability. I also like the way he is tough to tackle after making catches, a lot of shake and wiggle.

Re: Dieter commits
ESPN ranks him as the 220th best WR in his HS class. 220th! Piling up meaningless yards just to inflate personal stats when your team is ahead by 50 points in the 4th quarter speaks volumes about Dieter's character (or lack thereof). He thinks the sun rises and sets on his helmet. And just wait until his "human hype machine" egomaniac parents start telling June how to coach.
As for his Twitter self adulation, yes, Dieter's "They will change the Heisman's name to the Gehrig Award" mentality can indeed be an accurate barometer of what's inside his cranium. The dude needs some serious psychotherapy to realign his priorities.
Time will tell how America's 220th best WR competes against legit DBs instead of clumsy, unmotivated 5'7" HS midgets ...

From my understanding speed is why he did not get offers from more BCS schools.

Re: Dieter commits
Dieter runs a 4.50 40 according to ESPN. The #2 WR in the nation, Chris Black, clocked in at 4.54: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/85873/chris-black. Why are you complaining about GD's speed?
