Well, we have a long ways to go to keep up with the likes of LSU it sounds like:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142 ... mMTIPOFF_h
"All six games at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La. this season drew more than 90,000 fans. While beer isn't sold inside, the parking lots remain jammed during the action.
It's not uncommon for tailgates to have full bars-with some stations serving as many as 200 guests with bourbon, gin, vodka, scotch, Bloody Marys, mimosas and up to 25 cases of beer.
The same ethic applies to road games: In September, LSU and its fans traveled to West Virginia, which has one of the few college stadiums that serves alcohol.
According to a school spokesman, Mountaineer Field sold over $120,000 in beer alone that night-even though parts of the stadium sold out of cold Bud Light around halftime. Not only was that figure 33% higher than the figure for the next-highest game, it accounted for 23% of the season's total beer sales over seven games.
"The whole line was LSU fans buying four beers at a time," reports Judson Sanders, a 31-year-old Tigers fan who works in electrical contracting.
Beer rankings have always been a source of stength in Louisiana. In a study of beer sales and shipments over the last decade, the Beer Institute, a Washington, D.C. industry group, has ranked the Bayou State as high as No. 5 among all states in per capita beer consumption. That makes it the thirstiest state in the South.
Rather than making a push for temperance, LSU is considering a plan to cash in on the situation. The Tin Roof Brewing Company, a microbrewery near LSU's campus, announced a partnership this summer with the university that may result in what could be a first for a major football program: an officially licensed school beer."

LSU has always had a reputation for enjoying adult beverages. These folks know how to party. I don't know aobut an offical university beer as Abita might have a say in that. I do know that the game atmosphere on campus and away games are always festive with LSU fans.

Ah the joys of being a State School...put together a 9-10 win season and all of the sudden everyone comes out of the wood-works to support you...people that haven't even graduated high school. LSU thrives because it's "Cajun" and attracts everyone who thinks they are Cajun. Texas thrives because it is "Texan" and somehow wearing burn orange makes you more Texan. SMU really needs to find a way to sell its football product so that supporting SMU makes someone _____ or, _____ kind of people should be SMU fans. If you were to ask the average Dallasite, the _____ would probably be "spoiled" or "pretentious". I think SMU needs to market itself as an Legacy program and by that I mean, have reminders of Doak and Meredith and Rote and Dickerson EVERYWHERE. Pictures plastered all over our future IPF, in Ads, in Hughes-Trigg, on banners in Highland Park Village and Snider Plaza, move displays from the Heritage Museum out in front of the stadium so that people casually passing see them. Make being a fan of SMU simply someone who loves the greats of SMU's past.

I still think we market "rich" and "class" and go from there. Cadillacs are really crappy cars, but they have that cache of exclusivity and wealth and people still strive to buy one. I think we embrace our image and take market it. Yeah, you can cheer for TCU, but that's so Ft. Worth. You can cheer for UT- Austin, but that's so state school pedestrian. You can cheer for A&M, but are you really attracted to sheep? Get the picture. Embrace wealth and class and privilege. "Hey Biff, I see the Longhorns are playing the Aggies tonight". Biff, "I only go to SMU games, that's the place to be seen and where the elite go to football games, you can smell class the minute you arrive on campus. Oh, and if you're going to A&M for a game, don't dress up like a sheep."
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

A couple of LSU grads out here attend LSU games on a regular basis, they both say the fans are really into the games, then again they also say it seems most of them are feeling no pain by the time kickoff roles around. Alcohol does make fans more loud so to speak.
GO MUSTANGS!

Where the middle class go to feel upper-class? I gotcha. I think you could run both programs simultaneously. Comp the Kardashians and the Wilson brothers box suites, get Dean Fearing, Rathburn, Pyles to cater, jack up suite prices and market to the ubber rich. At the same time market to the middle class for sideline seating and create rowdy sections around the stadium with free swag or membership only. Still do the food trucks, music, etc.
