CMF- the concern is that we have no new 'recruiting coach and we are losing a large % of our top recruits. A new coach could possibly bring in some needed talent. If we wait until late Jan. for a new coach then he will have little impact on this class. At the rate we are losing our top recruits this class is likely to be the worst one JJ has had (excepting his first one). IMO this is the year that we needed our best recruiting class as these recruits will be keystone in 2013 when we enter the BE. Lack of depth will absolutely be a factor in the next couple of years.

If we hire a coach a a day before the signing period then that will have very little if any effect on this class.

Agreed- I think that is one of the things that I was trying to point out.

Chill guys...it's the 'dead period' for recruiting so no one can do in home visits (surprising that Mora would have been able to during the same period i.e. speculation not fact). Losing recruits is not good and the loss of a key recruiter together with the other garbage will hurt, however the class isn't lost and it is a sign that we are getting players that BCS programs are now wanting (and not directional state schools) so wait and see how it pans out before going postal.

Doesn't SMU have some hiring policy that a position must be open for X number of days before it can be filled?

CMF- no panic- just a little concern. Used to have a poster in my office that said:

Performance.

Happen to think that is appropriate in this situation.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of head coaches/assistants attend this convention. I would suspect the percentage to be significant. Even if your recruiting class were full and 100% commited, I can only think that being around your peers, friends and potential future staff could be beneficial. Can't imagine it would hurt.

You might need to wake up on enrollment day as well.

What about some OLmen that are in Texas. I couldn't find that any of these guys are commits anywhere and I know they don't have 5 stars next to their names. Maybe a couple of them would be good. ??

John Ferguson Denton Tx
Braden Meador Montgomery Tx
Andrew Dockrill Plano Tx has SMU on his list
Cody Stephens Crosby Tx has SMU on his list
Garrett Adcock (forget where) (don't know that he's interested)
Tevin McCray (? Tx) has SMU on his list
Shane Weeks Sachse Tx has SMU on his list (maybe Kris' brother)
Beau Jenkins Corsicana Mildred (was being recruited by Klemm)
Grant Wisenbaker Montgomery Tx (has SMU on his list)

Anyone know anything about these guys? Maybe a couple of hidden talents in there....

UCLA is at about 22 but while UCLA states they intend to offer Neuheisal's commitment they may be greyshirted or frankly told they don't really fit into new system-several have already decommitted which has and will probably make more room. I think a lot of those borderline commitments visited last weekend so it may open up more space. Klemm has 5 commitments-although 1 really was a re-commitment to Klemm. 2 Four Stars.

I would be supportive of the NCAA implementing a garden leave policy for these coaches. If they leave for another school during recruiting season then they should not be allowed to work for the other team during a certain notice period. The coaches can continue to be paid and would be covered by any contractual duties until their notice period expires. This would help provide more stability to programs and also stop so much of this piracy that goes on in college sports.

That will never happen with the NCAA. It makes too much sense.
