Honest Question -
We have all heard about the $50k recruiting budget that JJ and staff had at Hawaii and the stories of how they couldn't go see kids so the coaches had to rely on tape alone and/or kids that made the trip to UH.
JJ complained about this and mentioned how it would be so much easier to recruit at SMU, in a fertile base with the money and facilities to really travel and scout better recruits. Once he started at SMU he noted how many quality tapes he was receiving and how he was blown away at the talent level.
Since the staff spent 9 years at Hawaii, and they recruited under those type of monetary and travel restrictions, do you think they are just used to doing it this way..? I count Reinbold as an obvious exception, but it seems we are just not hitting the trail like we should be.
Question: Is there a mindset in the staff that "We've done it before, we can do it again". In other words, there is no urgency in replacing Klemm and the kids that are leaving because this staff brought Hawaii to the Sugar Bowl with lower-level recruits in the past.

They also got their butts handed to them in the Sugar Bowl. Talent wise- no comparison. Like they say you can't teach size and speed.

Re: Honest Question -
I think there's rampant speculation on this staff's ways, speculation that has taken on an almost urban mythical life of its own.

could be. just thought I'd ask the question and see if anyone had any input. if there is a plan in place, we will see quickly as signing day is fast approaching.ponyboy wrote:I think there's rampant speculation on this staff's ways, speculation that has taken on an almost urban mythical life of its own.

I go by what I am reading out there from the recruits and what they are saying we have done.

I guess that's what happens when you have an unprecedented amount of decomits in such a short period of time.

Re: Honest Question -
i'm as critical of the staff as everyone else, but part of me says that these guys HAVE to be doing stuff behind the curtain.

I'm sure they are but is it the right stuff? That's what I'm worried about.Junior wrote:i'm as critical of the staff as everyone else, but part of me says that these guys HAVE to be doing stuff behind the curtain.

Re: Honest Question -
I guess signing day will be the proof of the pudding. Now, if this class turns out to be crap with
25-30% 2*s then JJ and his staff need to be given holy hell. This is the class that will be providing depth and quality when we get to the BE. JJ has no damn excuses if this is a big failure. No panic but the results at this point are not looking good.

Re: Honest Question -
Players decommitting all over, no replacement for Klemm even though signing day is nigh..... It's almost like June is not going to be here next season...

Re: Honest Question -
In which case he should have been fired at the end of this season. Then we could have taken all lumps in one year instead of getting hammered for two.couch 'em wrote:Players decommitting all over, no replacement for Klemm even though signing day is nigh.....
