Naming our defenseBo 17 (is that the great Michael Bowen?) suggested in another thread that our defense will be so good this year that it should get a nickname.
Maybe the Pony Stampede?
Re: Naming our defenseI'll play: How about "The Broncs" or "Blue Bruisers"?
Re: Naming our defenseI like "Blue Bruisers"!
Re: Naming our defenseRight On! Yes it's ol' # 17. I am out here in Tucson now and don't get a chance to get back to teh hilltop often. Blue Bruisers is allright, but i relate better to the color Red. Pony Stampede might be a good name as well. Maybe we should let the "D' set the tone by stomping some [deleted] early in the season then we can get this thing going. Every good football program names their "D" when they are dominant.
I look forward to the season when everyone begins to take notice of our swarming, bruising, bonecrushing "D". I really do believe that our "D" is going to be the strength of our team. Too many factors lead me to believe this. We have a defensive genius for a coach and some kick-ass personnel. Master Vic at the helm and many others that can set the tone early. Go Big "D" and I don't mean Dallas. Bo 17
\"Come in Ro...This is Bo!\"
Re: Naming our defenseI think you are on to something Bo with your suggestion of waiting and seeing what the D does this fall....I think the appropriate nickname will become self evident then. BTW, I know we call ourselves pony fans, but in all honesty, there really isn't anything too intimidating about a bunch of "ponies" stampeding. A&M's "wreaking crew" was one of the better nicknames to come along as was the Cowboy's "doomsday defense".
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Naming our defenseHow about we wait until the D shows that it is worth a nickname. The last two years it has been worthy of a nickname, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
P.S. Try not to be cheesy.
Re: Naming our defenseBlue Wave? (Or Red Wave, depending on which jerseys we're wearing?)
Good to hear you're doing well, Mike. My son has heard many times the story of you and Romo hooking up on the Miracle on Mockingbird (he wasn't born then), and he plays receiver wears #17 in his peewee football league.
Re: Naming our defenseBo 17 has a great idea listed in his other post:
"Red Swarm" Once a Mustang, ALWAYS a Mustang!
Re: Naming our defenseHere's another: Bennett's "Blue Crew"..."Black & Blue Crew"?
Re: Naming our defenseHow about "The Horsemen" or "The Dark Horsemen"???
Re: Naming our defenseI like "Viloria and the Red Menace"
Re: Naming our defenseQuick reminder everyone...our colors are not blue and red. They are Yale Blue (Navy Blue for all practical purposes now) and Harvard Crimson (as in blood red). Thank you and carry on.
Okay, Okay....I admit I'm being picky. Blue is fine, but couldn't we start thinking in terms of crimson rather than just red? Having said that, don't forget, crimson tide is already taken! Re: Naming our defenseI think the "Black and Blue Crew" is a good one. That is something that i can see the papers calling our bone crushers.
Re: Naming our defenseTexas Tech's defense is called the "Swarm Defense" I say we don't copy another schools idea. Tech has called it "swarm defense" for years.
