Cedar Hill LBCedric Godfrey
Ht: 6-2 Wt: 220 40: 4.6 Position: LB Projected as: LB High School: Cedar Hill HS (Cedar Hill, TX) Biography: Father, John, was a former linebacker at Baylor University. Schools of Interest: Baylor (offer), Kansas (camp), SMU (offer), Texas A&M (camp), Tulsa (offer)
Friend of mine lives down there (actually DeSoto, but that's near Cedar Hill) and said that before this guy got hurt, he was damn-near unstoppable. How serious was his injury? Is SMU still after the guy? Or does he still have any interest in SMU?
It is funny evertime a player chooses another school over SMU the 'sunshiners' on this board rationalize it with 'we really did not need that player' or 'SMU backed off.' I am starting to question why Copeland gave Bennett an extension when we has yet to produce a winning season and it appears he is losing out on most of the players he is trying to recruit. It looks like another year of getting other schools 'left overs.' So far I am greatly unimpressed with this years' recruiting.
Johnny-
Not just sunshine as ya'll like to complain about, but...it is just reality that SMU has signed a JC linebacker. Do we really need another or could it be that we have a board full of prospects at LB that our coaches deem better? Let's just be like all college coaches on signing date and appreciate the ones we sign. SMU...2nd to None
Re:The team needs better LB play than in 2004. We're adding D.D. Lee, Reggie Carrington, Todd Alexander and Clayton Cox (so far), and Alvin Nnabuife might or might not stay at LB. Either way, the caliber of LBs has gone up exponentially.
Come on, your complaints are boring, unoriginal and inaccurate. Seems to me Coach Bennett has "tried to recruit" Mitch Enright, Todd Alexander, David Allison, Jeff Brock, Randall Goode, Adrian Haywood, Josh Hickman, Eric Johnson, Brad Lankford, Chase Smith and Troy Therian. How many of those did he "lose"? Stop making things up just to complain.
Ok, but how many skill position players has SMU offered that turned us down? For instance, I believe we have offered many QBs and settled for a kid that frankly was not recruited by many. Why haven't we received a commitment from a RB yet? If I recall our running game was horrible last year. I also do not recall SMU having any commitments from any of the State top 100 players which is not a good sign. The facts are the facts. Hopefully, Bennett will prove me wrong before signing day. I also would like to see a few Division 1-A transfers or Divisoin 1-AA transfers....we will see.
Re:
Well, gee, I don't know how many skill-position players have turned us down. Know what? Neither do you. And you know what else? Every school in America has been turned down. Nobody gets every player they want. Get over it. As for RBs, I can only think of one who we've offered, and he has yet to decide where he's going, from what I understand. Look, we have six scholarship backs coming back next year, so it might well be that the coaches haven't offered many -- if any -- RBs this year. We can read all the reports on rivals and other websites and various publications, but for all we know, the coaches have offered all the remaining scholarships to kickers and punters. Let them decide who the offers go to. They have shown they know how to recruit. When you complain just to complain, you lack even a shred of credibility.
Maybe you can answer these questions for me? When was the last time SMU has had a winning season much less get invited to a bowl game? When was the last time SMU had a top 30 recruiting class? What is Bennett's record since he has arrived at SMU? Facts are facts and until SMU changes its ways I will continue to bring up their short comings. By the way, Go get F#$#ed!
Re:
Well that really put me in my place. Look, I'm not interested in fighting with you, because you often bring up good points. But as for your questions: Winning season: 6-5 (mid-90s). Bowl game: Mid-'80s. Top-30 class: Who knows? I assume around the same time we hit the bowl-game circuit. Bennett's record: 6-29. But the fact that we haven't got a commitment from a RB means either (A) they don't the remaining RBs out there are worth a scholarship, or (B) they think the current stable of Pony runners can do the job next year, or (C) some other reason you and I haven't thought of. Perhaps it's a combination of the three.
