But since it's the Iowa coach who most people don't know, then meh. Don't get me wrong, Knight brought some of this stuff on himself. But it signals selective media coverage.

Re: If this was Bob Knight, the media would explode1. There are all kinds of media reports about this. Maybe it's not on the 5:30 p.m. national news, but the incident is hardly being overlooked or ignored.
2. When a coach has a history of outbursts and rage-related incidents, it's not selective coverage to put a disproportionate amount of focus on the latest one. The first time Knight had a similar public outburst, I bet it got similar treatment. But after three or four incidents, including throwing a chair completely across the floor, he loses any benefit of the doubt from the media. To accuse the media of selective coverage by comparing these coaches, that's like saying it's selective coverage to treat the sixth murder of a serial killer differently from the first. 3. Another reason coverage of Knight outbursts was over-the-top is because Knight won national titles. It wasn't just that he was an out-of-control rage-aholic, he was also on TV a lot because he won. Sorry, but winning MAAC championships at Siena doesn't make you a household name. 4. Knight brought "some" of the media heat on himself? Seriously? Are you forgetting all the stupid stunts Knight pulled? Fear and intimidation were part of Knight's m.o., which made the possibility of another just a matter of time - like watching a car race for the wrecks. The only thing that was selective was the University of Indiana's enforcement of its code of conduct for employees. If they'd had the stones to fire him when they should have, the media circus would have ended a lot sooner.
Re: If this was Bob Knight, the media would explodeOK. I guess you took a comment and ran with it in different directions. Wow!
Re: If this was Bob Knight, the media would explodeIf this were Knight, it might be worth caring about.
Re: If this was Bob Knight, the media would explodePart of me wishes Bobby would go back to coaching. He's turrible as an ESPN announcer.
2015 INDIANAPOLIS OR BUST
Re: If this was Bob Knight, the media would explodeIt seems to me that Indiana disappeared off the basketball charts and just returned this year for the first time since Knight was released.
Re: Re: If this was Bob Knight, the media would explode
Didn't they have a couple violations a few years ago?
Re: If this was Bob Knight, the media would explodeYes, they stupidly hired the guy ( Sampson) who got run out of Oklahoma for violations only to do the same thing at IU. Problem is that IU was way down in the immediate years after Knight leading up to Sampson and finally to an elite coach like Creen who has finally had time to turn things around. My only point is that the once proud tradition which Knight help build has really been in the pits for many, many years since his departure. Historically, most programs who have legends as coaches really suffer many years of down time after that legend leaves. Some sustain the legacy and others merely return to the pack.
