Your father would have asked you what happened. Apples/oranges.
I disagree. IMO, given a position at PSU which was almost unique in American sports, Joe Paterno was something of a father figure to the other three males initially involved: the man who reported what happened, the one accused, and the child.

Yes, but unless I'm remembering the grand jury testimony incorrectly neither the witness nor Paterno knew who the kid was. Paterno was confronted with accusations from a grad assistant against a guy he knew for 20+ years who had a great reputation.

Re: Joe Pa breaks his silence
While at the BBVA Compass Bowl, I talked to a few of the Pitt fans. They are not as sympathetic to Pervert State University (or some called it Penn Rape) and the fallen demigod Paterno. For them the DP is not enough for PSU. Guess it depends on one's views and perceptions concern PSU, Paterno and the Sandusky situation.
More importantly, I talked to a man that was the victim of child rape by a homosexual pedophile. He really doesn’t have a lot of sympathy for Paterno.
Paterno knew he had a child rapist wondering his facilities for years. And how many kids suffered because of it?
He did what was legal, but not what was right. And for far too many, what is legal is what they consider to be right.
Sorry Paterno has a malignancy and fractured pelvis. Wish him well. But he did what so many others have done through the ages; he didn’t act when confronted with evil.

Re: Joe Pa breaks his silence
Apparently, because of his silence, Sandusky continued his criminal conduct. In law it could be called "nonfeasance"....a failure to act which caused damage.
Long live Inez Perez!

Santorum: ‘Angel’ award for Penn State’s Sandusky
Posted on January 9, 2012 by Admin
Seattle PI - by Joel Connelly Ex-Sen. Rick Santorum, running for the Republican presidential nomination, in 2002 nominated former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky for a "Congressional Angels in Adoption Award." Santorum sanitizing their operation to maintain the child pipeline, Same ol business
The nomination by Santorum was made in the same year that a Penn State graduate assistant spotted Sandusky allegedly performing a sex act with a young boy in a shower at the university’s athletic complex. He reported the incident a day later to head football coach Joe Paterno.
"Its philosophy is simple: It is easier to develop a child than to rehabilitate an adult," read the citation from Santorum in an awards dinner program dated Sept. 24, 2002.
The citation was referring to The Second Mile, a charity launched by Sandusky in 1977 to serve disadvantaged children. It was first reported Wednesday by the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Sandusky has since been charged with multiple counts of child abuse. The university’s athletic director and a vice president have been charged with perjury. Paterno, 84, coach for more than four decades, announced on Wednesday that he will retire at the end of the year.
Santorum is running for president as a social conservative and family values champion. He is a strong opponent of abortion, critic of contraception, and outspoken foe of such gay and lesbian causes as marriage equality.
Santorum, a 1980 Penn State graduate, defended Paterno in an ABC News interview, saying he hoped the spreading sex-abuse scandal would not damage a coach who "served in such distinction for all these years."
The Angels in Adoption awards program is sponsored each year by the non-profit Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute
Apparently Santorum’s potential involvement is through a program that placed wayward kids in a position to work for congressmen as pages and such. Also, there was apparently a man who helped Santorum start the Young Republicans organization at Penn State University in the late 70s, who was a caught soliciting a young black child.

Re: Joe Pa breaks his silence
I can't get too worked up over politicians interacting with perverts, murderers and other. Politicans can't know everything about everyone they meet.
As below

There is no way for Rosalynn to know she is taking a pic with a serial pedophilic murderer and rapist.
No politican had the same information about Sandusky as Paterno had.

PoconoPony wrote:According to media reports in PA, JoPa never talked to Sandusky after firing him in 1999 and the Board was solely responsible for approving the foundation's access to the campus and providing office space on campus for the foundation. This whole thing was not a program endorsed by JoPa and there is no current information to indicate the football program conducted events or activities to support the foundation. Yes, there were former football players who were friends of Sandusky who served on the board. Bottom line is that this whole situation is totally the responsibility of the Board, who thus far has refused to accept partial blame, and was not any function of the football program or supported by JoPa. JoPa did what was required and presented the situation to appropriate official and they dropped the ball. He is being made the scape goat because the Board fails to recognize their responsibilities and it was a good political excuse to oust him as coach based on growing disatisfaction with the football program. I am not a Penn State fan or apologist; however, JoPa is a victim in this situation and the tide is really turning in PA against the Board and there is a huge ground swell to totally revamp the Board and institute some transparency and responsibility.
I can see that you are clearly a Joe Pa guy and that is OK. Shoving the blame off to the board, however, is weak. The Board clearly didn't know that there was a molestation allegation against this man when they allowed Second Mile access to the campus. Why didn't they know? Because the scumbag AD, the Scumbag of Administration (the guy who runs the campus cops) and the President didn't tell them.
To Mitch's Point about the generations and dealing with this, Yes, my grandfather would have been exceedingly uncomfortable discussing this, but I can't imagine him tolerating seeing this guy walking on his campus with another child. JoePa hid from the facts... He wasn't comfortable so he did nothing to prevent this from happening again. That is where Joe deserved to get fired. He wasn't a strong enough man to do the right thing.

honey badger don't care what you wish................... If you don't CONDONE CHILD RAPE you have to do something about it and those who love it and are obsessed with it and controlled by it only to get positions of more power to wield over you.
I laugh at all those who make pip squeaks rationalizing this abomination pro and con. Willful total ignorance or worse fear of addressing what is really going on in our government and all over America. So until people really care and do what it takes to put a stop to it ....... the honey badger will take what he wants, whenever he wants and all of you can wish it be covered up. Sadly for America you will get your wish, this will all go away soon.

That really made no sense. There is not a need to insert honey badger into every conversation. Why don't you try again and try to be coherent.

The reason you seem to have difficulty understanding what I said is because you are ignorant.. ignorant of the subject of the conversation. As for the honey badger he don't give a [deleted] what you think or prefer. So why don't you try again.
