I thought it was nice/weird to see SMU spoken about in a New Jersey paper. This information had to came from Thornton himself.
I really like the size of this WR.

There are variable restrictions...that is, you cannot get a 5star athlete in on an academic scholarship (legit) and not count against your 85...there are some rules about this and multi-sport players...not real sure though.
I heard that there is a football restriction and a basketball one. The question is which scholarship would a Charlie Ward type of player be counted against, football or basketball? He started on both teams. Also, I'd view a basketball scholarship as more valuable since there are so few and you need them.
I know Arkansas was faced with this situation last year with a kid named Marcus Monk. Was considered more of a hoops prospect , but he took the football scholie because BB ones are so few.

Monk was Arkansas's leading receiver this year, and will be on the floor with their basketball team at their next game which I believe is tonight. Matt Jones was the same two sports but this year has dropped out of school to concentrate on the NFL combine. Both cases the Scholie counted against football.
It is my understanding that a 2 sport athlete (if one is football) will always count against the football limit. I could stand corrected but I am pretty sure that is the rule.
Re:
Its makes more sense that they would be on a football one. It would be awkward if a player felt obligated to leave in the middle of the football season in order to play the sport he is on scholarship for. Any updates on this guy? Last I heard, he was thinking hard about Vanderbilt (???), but that was about a month ago. Any whispers floating around?
