Re: Gunner KielND doesnt compete they havent for 20 years lol OVERRATED
Re: Gunner KielUnfortunately, those 20 years have not been very kind to us as well. If you want to judge those last 20 years as a precursor to the future, then not sure why you are optimistic about our football future. Maybe you're not. If you look at the overall history of ND's program, it is much richer than most. Alabama was irrelevant for most of the 90s and the better part of 2000s if it had not been for Saban taking over. They're not irrelevant now are they? I personally don't like that argument about the last 20 years because in some instances there are long periods when good football programs have not been up to par with other periods.
And yes, ND's football history is much better than that of LSU. If ND has not been competitive for the last 20 years, then by the same measure LSU hasn't been competitive for most of its history. Look up its record, excluding this last decade, and the you'll see what I'm referring to.
Re: Gunner KielWhy does anything matter but for the last 5 yrs or so? That's like SMU fans talking about 1983 - it's quaint but irrelevant. Notre dame is a has been in football, and probably isn't going to get better. They have been coasting on their now ancient history. They better grab a life raft before they get swamped. Hope its the big east - would love to jack them every year.
Re: Gunner KielFootball is cyclical. Show me one single football program that has not gone through 5 years of not being successful. Maybe you can but I can't think of one off the top of my head.
That is why you don't look at a period of 5 years, IMO. Was Alabama a has-been for the 15+years before Saban came? It's certainly not a has-been now. Saban revived that storied program. If you want to deny that, then we'll just agree to disagree. I'm talking about long-term history. If your history dates back to a tenure as old as a kindergardener, I'm afraid we just have different perspectives, which is ok. I do get your point with regards to the phrase "what have you done for me lately", but I personally believe that history can be used as an advantage as well. That is why I think it's important to tell our recruits about our history, even if it's from the 80s, or earlier. It's still part of our history and I don't discount that just because I didn't have an HD television to watch the games.
Re: Gunner KielThe kid is from Indiana. He had family play for ND. No surprise in my book. He was offered by everybody and chose the school where he had the chance to start as a freshman and is close to home. Nothing here keep walking.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
