ESPN: The Pirate Mike Leach Cleans House
Per ESPN, "Washington State's new head coach has informed several players, who committed under the previous regime, that they no longer have a scholarship and will not be able to sign with the Cougars, Scout.com reports.
Running back C.J. Brathwaite (West Bloomfield, Mich.) summed up the stance of new coach Mike Leach to Scout.com:
"Washington State called me and they told me that they don't think I fit what they are looking for in the new defense. That's fine. That's life."
Joining Brathwaite as the latest former Cougars are three-star DT Maurice Bennett (Madison, Miss./Madison Central), three-star WR Travis Gardner (Chula Vista, Calif./Eastlake), and three-star ILB Jordan Pulu (Federal Way, Wash.).
Two-star safety Joseph Te'o (Concord, Calif./De La Salle), who was briefly committed on Rivals.com, is also no longer a part of Washington State's Class of 2012."
I'm not surprised Leach would do this. It fits his style. Hopefully recruits pick up on this.

Any of these guys worth taking a look at? Maybe the coaches should check them out, especially the OL/DL types.

Recruits know recruiting is a business, cutting dead weight is part of the game.

Jones did the same thing back in 2008....
Re: ESPN: The Pirate Mike Leach Cleans House
I watched Joseph Te'o from De La Salle play in the state title game and he looked like a player. He looked like a pretty solid running back as well.
I know it's late in the game, but if that swashbuckler Leach can swoop in late and steal our recruits, we should consider some of these guys(assuming they are quality players).
I'd rather get these guys than someone who is between us and UL-Lafayette, etc

Wasn't it only that one D tackle though? I can't remember the name, but he seemed like a marginal prospect anyway

Those guys don't have offers much better than UL-Lafayette, there's a reason they're being culled from Wazzu's class.

Boo Hoo for them. Nobody is missing out on a free education. Anyone with a DI-A offer can get a DI-AA offer if nobody else in DI-A wants them.

Yes, boo hoo for them, especially considering they had committed to that program and now have less than 2 weeks left to go somewhere else. I don't think going from DI to DII is a comparable trade-off from a football perspective. If we're talking about education, that's a separate point but my guess is they didn't have academic scholarships to fall back on.

Come on, every one of them will find a scholarship. It sucks for them, but it's a two way street.

Re: ESPN: The Pirate Mike Leach Cleans House
Leach has to clean house to make room to get better talent in this recruiting class. If he has a bad recruiting class to start it could hurt him and he could be part of a house cleaning later on down the line for not winning. Leach is getting paid 2 million dollars a year to WIN not run a social program. (Not that I have anything against social programs in general)
