Looking forward to watching Gilbert light it up next year. His films are impressive.

I think Padron will start and after awhile, it will go to GG. Either way, it will be good to have 2 quality QB's duking it out. It will just make them alot better in the end.

I'd put money on GG starting. He ran this offense to perfection in high school. He simply has much higher skill than Padron.

Thats not to say that Padron won't be a great back up if things go bottom up though.

Couldn't disagree more. Padron has the benefit of having had three years learning the system. GG might be very talented, but he'll be a freshman in this offense when he arrives.

Wasn't Kyle a freshman when he stepped in for BLM? If so that means he only had a few games to learn the offense too and I'm pretty sure he set a passing record in a bowl game. My point is that if GG has cerebral at all, it wan't take that long to get it going. Once again, two different level of athlete. But who knows, Kyle may prove most of us wrong.

So will KP be participating in spring practices? Doesn't really sound like it if he is still on crutches and in a boot. GG obviously won't be here so I guess that will give Kaiser and Preston a lot of reps.

Isn't that just pretty much an improved version of what we've been trying to do?

The tempo is significantly faster, playcalling is more balanced (zone read runs and QB draws) and routes are based on pre-snap reads not post-snap reads. Not really anything like what we've been trying to do. Maybe Phillips will give our offense a more modern look but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm no coach, but it seems like the difference between pre-snap reads made by coaches and signaled in at the line versus the in-play reads is a huge difference in what it requires out of the quarterback mentally. It's strange that our quarterbacks have regressed in this system that would seemingly get more intuitive with more snaps. Either way, Gilbert's decision-making was a big problem at UT, and I find it hard to believe he'll be ready to start without being here this spring.

True, as far as I can tell Gilbert hasn't run anything like the R&S before in his career and I don't see him picking it up quickly enough to beat out Padron and start the opener.

So basically its a way better offense than the RNS?

if he earns the job as a RS FR over Padron and Gilbert, then SMU is going to have something pretty special for the next 4 years. I wouldn't hold my breath on that one, though
