Recruiting Wrap-Up Event

Postby 78pony » Sun Jan 22, 2012 1:16 pm

Now not that far away. Assuming things continue to go south, does anyone show? Does anyone want to listen to jones try to tell us how this is really a good class despite what we may think (remember back to the magic used to let us know that the ASU deal was never done, and he wasn't sure he would have accepted even if offered).

Or, does the Mustang Nation pull an ASU and stand up to make feelings known? To our HC, and/or AD?

Will be interesting to see, because there is trouble right here in River City. With the exception of a few, most can see that the ball has been dropped and it doesn't look like anyone has been/is capable of picking it up.

Food for thought/discussion. I got a charge out of another post either on this board or a pay site indicating that Tom Mason could be the heir apparent. And possibly the remaining best recruiter.

I suggest that Tom is a good guy and very likeable. No debating that he is a very good DC. As a recruiter he may be good once he gets in front of a kid, but has he put in the hours and miles that are typically required of highly successful recruiters?

So, the question: is a mid-50's guy that's relatively laid back, and not outwardly intense, but a D genius, where SMU needs to go in a few years?

I hope the Mustang Nation will stand up and let both JJ and SO know that we no longer can support somebody that has little interest in our university, little interest in developing recruiting relationships with Texas hs coaches, and has totally crapped out in securing a top level recruiting class. There is only one person that the finger can be pointed at and that is JJ.

GO PONIES!!!

Look, two coaches were fired, and justifiable so...

Tom Mason has been our number one recruiter for some time, he just doesn't twitter or beat his own horn. What bs are you playing that he can learn to recruit?

Sorry, you got mixed up with two coaches that blew their owns horns and stepped way out of bounds. Do you really think Nick Saban would allow his assistants such contact with Alabama supporters? To have their own recruiting buddies on a fan site?

You realize that neither of these coaches even were employed when June picked them up?

I see you keep saying this about mason but there is no proof to actually back it up. I am not talking about twitter and fb, that stuff is irrelevant to me, I'm talking about getting players here. I like the guy and I believe that he is a great coach but our best recruiter he is not.

Coordinators rarely spend a lot of time recruiting off campus-they might a little but most probably recruit mostly from their offices.

It's definitely fair to ask (1) what was the impact of the ASU mess on recruiting (2) what impact did losing AK have on recruiting. (3) what is the staff philosophy on Texas and DFW recruiting

I wish you guys would quit moaning and groaning over ASU, Klemm & some CA recruits. Your memory is short if you can't remember where this program has been. You also forget how difficult it is for a school like SMU to recruit against Texas, A&M, Tech, OK, OSU. (size and attendance). They are big time programs but perhaps we will we will get there. J & O are responsible for where we are today, like it or not. I recall in when we signed Josh LeRibeus, gosh we all jumped for joy at a 3 star OL. A few others came along but could not cut in the class room. McCann being an exception. SO, now look where we are now. Three 3 stars already enrollled, Deiter, Holloway and Roundtree and eleven others on the committment list. Looks it is a pretty good class as of now and you know their will be some suprises at signing date. Have faith my brothers and go ponies.

I wish you would take the blinders off and see that there are some major issues with our recruiting. We didn't even try to compete against those schools. I don't think anyone here thinks we should be mopping the floor with those guys in recruiting, we just want to beat the lower tier big 12 programs, Iowa St, Kansas, K State, and any other lower tier BCS team that recruit Texas. 3 star inflation has gone crazy since then. It does not mean what it used to mean. Everyone knows JJ and SO are responsible for where we are now but I want them to get us where we want to go or at least get us on the right path. Battling it out with UNT for recruits is not going to do it.
