Nike deal already making good impressions on recruits

Post by SMU 86 »

Chase Walling has tweeted about it today. A. J. Justice just found out about it today and was really excited about SMU signing with NIke. It is already paying some early dividends.

After Phil Knight's comments today at the Paterno funeral, I think SMU should be reconsidering its association with his company.

A surprising amount of people feel how he feels. I just cannot see where any of these people are coming from. I am still stunned by it.

Anyone know what the design is on the sleeve opposite the Texas emblem?

Those jerseys are awesome

I didn't have a chance to watch it. Could you elaborate a bit on what he said?

Basically said JoePa did what was required of him in reporting incident to his superiors, and took a shot at the trustees.

The funny thing is, JoePa didn't have any "superiors" at PSU. He was Penn State. Yes, technically, there was an AD, but JoePa ran that program. He knew what happened, and he knew nothing had been done about it, since Sandusky was still around the program 8 years later or whatever. All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. When faced with the biggest ethical dilemma of his career, JoePa cowered away.

Part of it was age, I think. Guys of his generation, just don't understand the concept of pedophilia. They don't get it and don't understand its damage. I think he just didn't know what he heard. He sent the message up the flagpole and never followed up. The other part is he may have just forgot once he passed it on. Not an excuse, but possible given his age.

You may be right, but if you're presenting yourself as competent enough to run a major college football program, then you should be expected to follow through with child sex abuse charges in a proper manner. If his defenders are going to use the age excuse, then by their own logic he should have retired 10 years ago

The prospect of Joe Pa's defender getting a standing O at his funeral, when paterno did what almost everyone in the country believes to be less then the minimum required for a child molestation crime - is borderline sickening. The speakers would have been better off just remembering the good, and writing this off to very poor judgement and misguided loyalty.

I admire the trustees for making the hard decision - they knew they will be heavily criticized for many years by the idiots. It is Paterno that was a coward by trying to sweep a major crime under the rug. He didnt want that kind of attention on his school, program, his long time assistant and himself.

And what the hell does Knight know about any of this anyway? That he took up the mantel is kind of weird.

With or without the Paterno thing, SMU should re-think any association with Knight or Nike -- can't stand either one.

Oh please, switching to Nike will be one of the better choices we have made recently. Recruits like it better as do the players. I graduated in '09 and heard from a lot of the players that they didn't like Adidas shoes too.

Thinking that ANYONE will make a Nike-Paterno connection is just silly.

Players consistently bemoan having to wear Adidas shoes...apparently, they absolutely Sandusky their feet.

nike is right choice. We need any edge we can get and this gives us some cred, or at least takes away a negative. .
