JJ makes no changes, people say he's out of touch with reality and is ignoring the floundering offense. JJ starts making changes, he's cruel and doesn't develop the players.

Padron was a midlevel CUSA QB on a good day. He's not going to cut it anymore.

Best we've seen so far (and top 10-15 nationally btw). Now we are left with two guys we've never seen and one we don't like. #goodplan

His amazing breakout years weren't good enough to win CUSA. He definitely isn't going to be good enough to win the Big East and get us through a BCS game. We should be in this to win it. Install a QB with a hope of competing at a high level, iron out the kinks during the last season in CUSA, enter the BE with our guns blazing.

And yes, I'm sure the adjustment everyone was pleading for was to run off the only game experienced QB we have signed on our team. Our season is literally in the hands of a guy who isn't even signed to our team yet.

He wasn't our Colt Brennan but he certainly wasn't awful either (2 division titles, top 10 then top 25 national QB, passing and TD records). I want better and I hope Gilbert is it but all our 2012 eggs are in that one basket. I wanted Kyle or better. Now we have ?, ??? and no thanks/not yet.

I'm with SMUer. This is not good news. I was looking forward to seeing how he would do after his surgery. I couldn't quite believed it when I read it. No, Padron wasn't perfect, but he is a fighter and a good kid. For SMU, a blow. Good luck to him though.

Might he mean his medical release to play after surgery now?

From twitter:

KP got his release today from SMU! Looking forward to see where he ends up and what school will be the lucky one to get him!

From Kyle's brother.

If ya know Kyle and his family, you can get it yourself. Padron's Dad tweeted it on also.

Bummers.

The Tweet was dated Jan 26 -- surprised it hadn't been spotted sooner, but here it is:

That must be why I didn't see it - I only looked for tweets from the 27th
