Ford Field Attendance Advice

Post by Digetydog »

I know huge crowds at Ford are not the norm, but SMU has two big games against hated rivals from the SWC era (my era). This fall, I am planning on flying to Dallas to visit the family and to catch a game at Ford Field. Having moved to CT some time ago, I haven't been to a game at the new place.

I have a few question about actually attending a game there:

1) How much are single game tickets normally? When I watch on TV, the visitor side is always empty and seats on the 50 seem abundant. If I buy tickets over there, will I end up sitting with a bunch of Aggies/Frogs? Otherwise, what are the best areas to buy single game tickets in (I am a Mustang Club member if that matters)?

2) How does parking work? There wasn't much parking near the campus in my day. I cannot imagine where people park.

3) Would the DART train work? Because my dad has had both knees replaced, I wouldn't want to do that unless there was some sort of shuttle available.

4) How does the pre-game work? I would want to drop by any events my fraternity might be having. Are they at the frat houses or the "Vard?

1) Usually about $35 for "reserved" seating or about $20 for "general admission" (which is supposed to mean the horseshoe but with the amount of empty seats we usually have, it's easy to move around). Tickets should be much more expensive for the A&M or TCU games this year (if I were in charge, I wouldn't even offer single-game tickets for the A&M game - force anyone who wants to see that game buy a season ticket). I would recommend the West Side because the sun isn't in your eyes when it is setting but the East Side wouldn't be bad (though the proportion of other teams' fans will be higher over there simply because there are more single-game tickets available over there and it's closer to the visitors section). FYI, the East Side really is only about 20% assigned to visitors...there is some sort of stigma about it being the "visitors' side" even though most of the sections are supposedly for SMU fans.

2) Many on here park in the neighborhoods south of campus. You can also park across 75 at Mockingbird Station and take the Mustang Express shuttle.

3) Yes, the DART train would work. As mentioned in #2, there is a shuttle.

4) It's all on the 'Vard.

I think a lot of us realize that nitpicking an alum who hasn't been to a football game in at least 12 years isn't the best way to encourage participation. :)
