Alright, this is all I am going to say on this subject...Coach Jones and (probably as a result of his attitude) the players complain about there not being more people (fans?) at the games...fine, I can understand that...to a point, but where is the love and "thank you"s from them for the loyal fans who come to the games and have been supporting SMU teams through thick and thin for over 25 years? It is like we don't count in their eyes....we might as well not exist. I will continue to support the team because they are my team, but they owe me and a bunch of other loyal fans a lot of respect and love for our loyalty and financial support of the team. We could use a pat on our backs and some love too.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

1) There is no question everyone on here wants Smu and June to succeed. 2) He is overpaid and doesn't work like he is paid $2M compared to other programs 3) He and Leigh are lying and they think we are fools. His foot was 1/2 way out the door. 4) His recruiting plans, strategy, and efforts are subpar for his salary and a BCS program. If we stepped it up we could be much better than we are, that is the frustrating part. 5) There is no question something happened to this team at USM, Tulsa, Navy - compared to the bowl game / TCU etc and nobody has a real answer for that.
That about sums it up for me. I hope we kick it up a notch b/c we are not in the CUSA land anymore and 7-5 isn't going to cut it. I am very happy we have committed to bigger things and BCS (for now)
Very good points all. SMU got in a lot of trouble pre and long after DP because it's alumni and fans sat quietly and idly while the Administration told us they were fixing things. SMU should be so very thankful it has fans that still care after some of the mess we've watched over the last 25 years. My relationship with SMU began with the start of the Bennett-era and by the end of it I was so disillusioned and sick with what I saw that I was seriously evaluating whether I wanted to continue following SMU athletics. June came at a critical point for me and I decided to re-commit and go all-in, and I have and I expect the same from him. I can't imagine what it was like for those of you pre-Bennett and how hard that must have been. You guys are champions.
I look at this team like a capable student who is struggling but who we bought a very expensive tutor for. We expected struggling to continue in the beginning but by now we expect mostly B performances with an occasional A. Instead we get some Bs, some Cs, some Fs and two As. The coach and team act like they should get standing ovations for the As, but act undeterred by their low performances and worse, blame us. And the tutor is complacent in all this or worse shares their opinion.

I am done too.. but let me say this first.. I think I understand and admire the die hard SMU fans and very much admire their tenacity and commitment to SMU. All of you faithful and alumni in general very much deserve to experience SMU elevated to the highest level of play after what you have been through. However I think you must also see that none of the coaches or players on the team were a party to those years nor were they tainted by them. So what they owe you is their best efforts and an understanding of your pain of the PAST.. Let's work together and continue this remarkable turn around and build the program with constructive criticism. I see signs of Jones being open to tweaking his offense with his new coach even putting on a red shirt that he looked ridiculous wearing from a fashion point of view. SMU Blue would be much better with a nice logo. The recruiting program will obviously be addressed and I am sure the staff is doing much more than meets our eyes.
The fact is there are people who see eleven wins next season with a tough schedule. I am excited for SMU.
Last I checked, the players were getting a free education in return for their best effort on the football field and the coaches are well paid to make sure the players perform at a high level and WIN. I know that fan support is not at their desired level, but they need to quit the crying and complaining and focus on winning. Work hard, win, make a name for yourself and people will show up to cheer you on. I spend a lot of time and money going to games (home and away) as wells as donating a good amount to the MC and in all honesty I have not seen the desired return on my investment. I know 18-22yr old kids can be full of emotions and have a lot going on outside of football, but IT IS THE COACHES JOB TO GET THEM FOCUSED AND PREPARED. June and his staff failed miserably at this after the UCF game. Completely ignoring the whole ASU fiasco, if I were June's boss I would have been thinking long and hard about letting him go after the way they failed to prepare and show up the last half of the season.
I will never stop supporting SMU. And although I would prefer to be an undefeated nat'l championship contender yr in and yr out, I can settle for our coaches, players and staff giving their absolute best effort each and every game.
As always, I think next year is our breakout year!
The New Guy: SoCal_Pony said it well "I think it is that attitude by SMU's most faithful that directly contributed to 20+ years of complete misery here".
He was joking-what he was saying is that Cheerleaders sat on their [deleted] defending the idiotic policies of the athletic department for 20 years instead of demanding systematic changes in the program. Guys that did say something-Dickerson, James got excoriated on this board. It flies over the head of guys like you because you have so little understanding of what is going on at SMU and across college football. BTW if you had been on the this board for awhile you would have information showing just how badly SMU did in canvassing the State of Texas in the 2012 recruiting season in comparison to other Texas schools. SMU is reaping right now what is sowed in March, April and May 2011 and a relative large number of knowledgeable posters warned of the consequences and had to listen to posters like you criticize us. No. 83 rated Class in Country(Rivals)

What happened during the death penalty I have no knowledge of other than the residue I see on Ponyfans.. what SoCal_Pony said, I said may be so, regardless of your spin.. As for canvassing the state of Texas that sounds like 80's technology... yes I heard the "not doing enough" but I heard that opinion last year and this year with no shocking statistics of such.. Maybe Coach'EM can get on that one...
I am happy with the recruiting results of years past. This year appeared to be top 50.. As for what has transpired since the ASU debacle I have come to the feeling that all those insecure LA boys who want to stick together may not be the kind of players that are best for SMU.. I like the fearless strong minded individuals who think for themselves. I like the quality of individuals we have on the team now. The ones who think they have what it takes to play in the NFL.. I have come to believe getting rid of Klem is the silver lining, we saw how well the line played in the bowl game with a different coach, maybe June had to make that change and that was the price. My point is we have no factual information to base all this speculation and hate on.
I will leave their interview and selection to the coaches and trust in their judgement. I will support them even though a wrench was thrown in the works and they have to scramble to salvage a class.

The following would raise concerns and raised eye-brows(ie"the [deleted] would hit the Fan") of knowledgeable followers of recruiting at every one of these schools. What exactly were our other 8 recruiters doing while Klemm was in California? Not a single post that I've read has complained about what Klemm is doing in California
Out of curiosity and ignorance of the actual process why not mail an offer to every one of the top one hundred kids from Texas.. Save a lot of mumbo jumbo.. Then when signing day comes you can tell three fourths of them sorry we are full up.
TCU recruits almost exclusively Texas players-two BCS Bowls-too many 10 win seasons to count. About 6 Conference Championships. The difference is they hired a Coaching Staff that knows what they are doing recruiting Texas.
