Pretty pathetic to continually blame the fans and the people here. We are the supporters of the program. It would probably be wise to go preach elsewhere to help attract new people to the program instead of blaming all the support that SMU has. You are basically assigning all the blame to us and none to the coaching staff. Your posts are seriously some of the most insane things I have read in a long time. You are obviously June, no one else would be pompous enough to blame everyone else but himself.

We are all passionate fans, or we wouldn't be on this site. We are the ones going to games, traveling to away games (and thankfully, bowl games), and donating to the program. Ponyfans.com posters are not the problem.

Alumni that live in the area and don't attend games are the people that you should focus blame on. And the only way to capture those people is with marketing and WINS. Same goes for the casual cfb fan in Dallas.

We are all thankful for what JJ and staff have accomplished in a very short time at SMU. But we all think it could be even better with a greater focus on recruiting and making an effort in that area to outwork the competition. Not an easy task, but there is just so much to offer when selling SMU that a lot of us passionate fans do not understand why we aren't going after bigger fish. We all witnessed firsthand what Klemm could do in that area, and our expectations have grown.

Tell us what more we could do as fans and I am sure pf.com posters are up to the task.

JJ is just not a cheerleader, but that unfortunately is what the SMU community probably needs. When I moved here, I'd never really heard of the College of Charleston but after watching evening news reports and interviews with Coach John Kresse (who constantly praised the fans who came out, told them how important they were to the team's success and always appealed to the community to come out and join the fun), I checked them out and became a regular for years

What is it going to take to get local alumni with a casual interest in sports to come out and support the program? that's the challenge for the (soon to come?) sports marketing group at SMU. I like the idea of starting with student attendance and building out from there. Have to create a better and more exciting environment if we want to play with the big boys. All too many SMU people (not the kind we would find on this board) will sit back and only be enticed once attending a SMU football or bball game becomes the "thing to do". It's a big challenge, but starts with today's students who will soon become young alumni. Cheap family plans o get them hooked!

The old timers who have stuck with the program through what we've endured the past 25 years will not be bailing out now.

I respect and admire all the SMU supporters for their incite, knowledge and loyalty. Where I take offense is with those who when in disagreement with the program whether it be coaching, player or recruit or whatever are misguided and careless in their approach to make their opinion known. Some sound like vigilante instigators. some make direct attack on the kids. Everyone can get their voice heard without intentionally being directly destructive to the kids, coaches and program. If you want management change contact management don't try to start a riot.

Remember we are working with kids who hear and watch what we say on this board. They watch what we do when they win and lose a GAME on the field. They feel what we think at school. We are trying to attract younger kids and their parents and grandmothers who investigate, hear rumor, listen to what is going on at SMU. So I prefer sunshine to doom as the bait.

So the intelligent approach in my opinion is to build the image of harmony and blue sky of every aspect of SMU. Build it up even if it isn't perfect now we can fix it if we work together. Build up the coaching staff and send your suggestions to them. If you have a serious difference of opinion it should be directed to those who oversee the program on SMU's behalf.

We are currently trying to attract recruits and some grumble and put down who we are getting. Gilbert has not even thrown a football here and some focus on his worst day at the sport. To me that is INSANE.

If what you say is true, our problem is that we have kids who care what is said on message boards. Somehow, against greater odds, this doesn't seem to affect other schools. What is your explanation for this?

I understand the principle behind what you are saying but these kids have thick skins when it comes to social media. High school used to be rough, but now ex-girlfriends cuss you out on Facebook, friends have name-calling fights with friends on Twitter, random people tell you that you look ugly/fat/[deleted] in your photo albums...I'm not saying it's okay because everyone is doing it but I hardly think some guy saying "Bo Levi sux" on a football forum is going to raise any eyebrows or cause us to lose games. Additionally, we should have strong media and social media training for athletes because they are going to need these skills if they go Pro. Personally, I detest player name-calling but that happens very rarely on this board and is quickly quashed.

Actually, I'm going to get to the bottom of this. Last year I had a RBA interview with Jeff Reinebold that I posted here and on RBA's blog. This year I was going to push and see if I can't get one with Dan or June this Spring. If I do, I'll ask him straight up if his players read Ponyfans.com, and if so, whether he thinks negative posts affect their games. I've got to think that June imagines he has a family-type system in place so that external factors don't affect his program...just a guess.

Maybe that is a major problem with our program, our kids are way too concerned with what people say. Maybe they should develop some thicker skin and try to prove everyone wrong. I know that is what i would do. If any players are reading this, I would implore you to read your playbook instead.

@jonesdoe you haven't been building a message of harmony and blue sky, you have been constantly blaming all of the fans that support the school. Like I said earlier, maybe you should focus on people that currently do not support the school and turn them into fans.

Wow. I highly doubt our players or coaches give a damn about what is written on this board. I'm sure the players like to read their praise, but when it comes to negative comments, they aren't worried about what we as fans say. While being recruited there were several posters on this board that complained about me coming here and said I was a charity case for my older brother. Then while playing some on here even thought I should be thrown off the team or arrested. But I kept on playing, playing for my coaches and my friends. Our players are just fine. We can praise them when they do well and get mad when they don't. That's life. Sure we will have the occasional parent on her defending their kid and why not. But at the end of the day PF is a place to vent. If you want that warm fuzzy feeling when you log on, start a site. Try ponybliss.com

Glad to hear you are communicating with the coaching staff and hope it eases any aggravation you may feel and also lets you pat them on the back for the good they are doing. I am sure the staff addresses the issues of distraction. But we have seen clearly this last season there was that very distraction that was a serious problem for the players who even went to the media to vent. So we can all up our game.
