I assume there'll be recruits there...so we should be civil. The first impression of SMU to make is not an discontented fan base.

Recruits do not go to the signing day event.

So feel free to blast away. Last I heard we were ranked 9th in CUSA- wow. I guess you could spin it that we were top 25 right? Of course there aren't 25 teams in CUSA.

GO PONIES!!!

I thought Ty Law was flying in today...oh well, I've only been to one and it was last year's ice storm. I figured that was the reason no recruits were there...if they don't come/aren't allowed, disregard

What a blast. Great people and a great class of new Mustangs. I do not know a lot about stars but more has got to mean better. Given that... I have grown to trust that JJ and staff can pick talent and then coach talent to be better than what others see.

Gary Cogill has got to be one of the best REAL speakers I have ever heard. June is the real deal. Not flashy, not boastful and not stuck up but down to earth good.

I am really glad to be a Mustang and have an improving team, year after year, with honorable coaches and players.

See you next year on the Boulevard and remember.... Tip your Morgan Campaign server well.

The kids looked great on film. Really impressed with the class. I wouldn't worry to much about stars. And the QB from AR looked great. Can't wait to see some of those OL in a Nike uniform. They are huge. Down side was that he could not comment on GG.

Also, they asked everybody to raise their hands if they were at the bowl game. I'm thinking maybe 25% of those at the banquet attended the game. Show up Mustangs.

That's great to hear. Miss not being in Dallas to experience these things.

There are a couple of kids that really intrigue me. Lincoln Richard and Damien Neroes are gonna be special linebackers. LB is one position that Tom Mason has done a fantastic job of recruiting. We have quality depth at that position and can afford to redshirt these kids.

However, only Seaver Myers looks to have much of an opportunity for immediate help on the offensive line. Rice, Walling, Briggs, and Chamugau are all projects that need at least the redshirt year to adjust to the college game and develop physically.

We really dropped the ball by not getting any JUCO offensive line help. With five (possibly six if McJunkin isn't granted another year) departing seniors, we really could have used some guys that could have helped us out next year. Part of the blame should go to Klemm for that.

Overall, this is a MEH class. Not a lot of guys with quality BCS offers and some desparation guys at the end just so we could sign a full class. Hopefully Jason Phillips can hit the ground running with the 2013 class b/c this group as a whole needs to be recruited over.
Back off Warchild seriously.

You guys were spot on in pointing out that nobody would show up. The room was packed.

The fact that coach Jones has good relationships with so many parents of the kids is also great evidence about how he is never involved in recruiting.

This class is going to turn out just fine. We have great talent evaluators, and rivals and scout have gone from being good recruiting evaluators to advertisers.

Most worrying thing is the comments about players competing as frosh on the o-line. Probably a good indication of the talent we have in house to take up the slack for graduating seniors...

JasonB,

You can poo poo on Rivals all you want, but even if you take them out of the equation, this was a Phil Bennett-esque recruiting class. Very few guys with quality offers and several in which SMU was their only D1 offer. There are a few intriguing kids in this class but we need to really step it up next year. Phillips is a proven recruiter who wil get his opportunity to show it next year. God knows he will be asked to do the work of six.

I wouldn't say it was packed but it certainly wasn't a diminished attendance.

I didn't see anyone saying nobody would turn out for the signing day event. Are you one of the ones saying this class is a stellar class and will have SMU winning BIG EAST Championships and a BCS Bowl berth?

There is one potentially unfair criticism of June Jones that I've seen repeated several times. There are severe limitations on the Head Coach recruiting off campus. I noted he mentioned something to that effect today. I can't remember the exact dates they can recruit off campus but you rarely hear of HEAD COACHES recruiting off campus until Post Season. I think a HEAD COACHES can only visit any one prospect during 1 day total which for example could be at school and then follow up at home later that nite. Also, your typical Coordinator isn't going to hit the trail that hard either
