Doh...as Mr. Hope would say..."Thanks for thememories"....time to move on, fellas!! Jimminie Christmas....
Re: Doh...as Mr. Hope would say..."Thanks for theI think it might be best to go ahead and do it now. Let Doh finish the season but if the announcement is made, everybody would lighten up and relax, especially Doh but including the players, and that's the best thing that could happen right now. Let these young guys play loose and get as much quality experience possible.
Re: Doh...as Mr. Hope would say..."Thanks for theJust another nail. Dead man walking.
Re: Doh...as Mr. Hope would say..."Thanks for the
No way, cause the '12 kids will opt out now. You finish it out and have your replacement lined up right away. Don't release the '12 kids until they've spoken w/the new coach
Re: Doh...as Mr. Hope would say..."Thanks for theThey will let him finish out the season to give Orsini adequate time to get the right coach for next year's team. They are not going to lose any players when they announce his departure. Instead, it gives the team renewed hope to reenergize the program and return the love of the game to Moody. The renovation of Moody combined with one year away from being in the BEAST, should make the position more attractive to a solid, high profile coach and motivator. The time is right.
Re: Doh...as Mr. Hope would say..."Thanks for theOrsini, don't extend his contract again.
Re: Doh...as Mr. Hope would say..."Thanks for theDo we want the '12 guys or would a better coach lock down better '12 guys? I have seen Georgetown play up close and personal. I can't imagine how many turnovers we'd have against them or offensive boards we'd give them. And they aren't even the best BE team. Night and day my friends, night and day!
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Doh...as Mr. Hope would say..."Thanks for the
'12 is over, unless you are back-filling one or two kids tops. You lose our '12 class, you lose a 7ft, top 100 national center, w/several Big East offers. You lose a kid like Bernardi that's perfect for the program, and I don't mean system. The kid's favorite part about SMU is Crum being open 24/7 so he can get shots off. He also has a Big East chip on his shoulder. All 3 of those kids go high major if they are released this Spring. Gtown has good athletes right now, we need a world class Big East PG. When we get a new coach, I'd do everything to retain the '12 class, but would open up a few scholarships via forced attrition. We're too young, w/not enough talent, for the Big East. Gotta clear some space. See ya Frog & Norman to start
Re: Doh...as Mr. Hope would say..."Thanks for the
This. I honestly think this is the best strategy. It's extremely important to keep the incoming class. I've also made my comments re: Frog know before. He's a good kid but we need that BE PG.
Re: Doh...as Mr. Hope would say..."Thanks for theI had a dinner meeting last night and didn't get into the car and turn on the radio until mid-way through the second half. I was very surprised to hear that the Ponies were down by 20+ to a 1-6 (in conf) team, even on the road. I've been a defender of giving Doh more time up until now, but these guys have really hit the skids. At the beginning of the season, Doh said that the team would be better in March than in November. I believed him and was willing to go along with that up until now. I didn't expect big things out of this young of a team. But they are clearly not trending the right way at this point. They are NOT playing better now than they did early in the year. After giving Ok. State and Ole Miss a solid run for the money, I just don't see why we're getting blown out in C-USA play.
At this point, the ball is in Orsini's court. Can he: (1) line up the boosters for another big spend; (2)can he get a top-quality coach in here; and (3) will a change negatively impact the 2012 class? Those are the big questions that stand between keeping Doh for another season and making a change.
Re: Doh...as Mr. Hope would say..."Thanks for theWe can't go into the the BE without doing something dramatic to show our commitment to big time basketball. I like Doh and I don't know what problems he encounters when he recruits talent for SMU, but it is clear that a fresh start with a new coach is inevitable. There has to be some big time recruiter assistant at one of the Big 12 schools who knows this region and would love the opportunity to be a head coach at a BE school. Even though he has only head coached there one year I understand the guy at Murray State is a great recruiter.
Re: Doh...as Mr. Hope would say..."Thanks for theBased upon the way this year will eventually end, Doh will be gone. The coaches that we will be able to chose from will be much greater than we have ever seen here at SMU. I look forward to the next stage in SMU Basketball......my major concerns are keeping some of the existing athletes at SMU ( there may be some dissension in the ranks right now from some on the team, and rightfully so) and the three guys committed to next year's 2012 class. But if we do lose some athletes and if a big name coach comes in with excellent recruiting skills, then we will be just fine going into the BE.
Just some get us a few nasty mean rebounding dogs...with a sincere focus on the glass!
Re: Doh...as Mr. Hope would say..."Thanks for the
Agree. Besides, I am skeptical about the Princeton offense vs. the BE. I'm afraid that we need big, bruising, basket crashers to compete.
Re: Doh...as Mr. Hope would say..."Thanks for theLooking forward to seeing Orsini's new head coaching hire during the off season. Please plant the seeds and start the process now.
