Everyone has high expectations, but you don't go from 25 years of suck to great overnight. Look at what tcu did... They made a commitment and then hovered at just above .500 until they got lt and the program took off. We will make the same leap when June gets his hands on a stud qb. In the meantime, loosen up, enjoy the ride, and at least give the guy a chance to fail. And know that if he does fail, we have plenty of great candidates that want this job.

June has taken this thing way too far in the right direction, and at least deserves the chance to have a bad season.

We'll make that leap when we get a new coach, recruiting is the name of the game and June can't get it done out on the recruiting trail to get us where we want to go. Lucky for us he wants out so we won't have to fail to get him out of here.

From my understanding we had about 25 coaches contact Orsini when they thought that June was about to leave. Some of those were BCS head coaches from what was said. Since we are now going to a BCS conference SMU is no longer considered a bad place to coach. Now it is a very desirable place to coach. We will be okay if June stay and we will be okay if June goes.

I'd love to see your list of proven head coaches that desire SMU more than any other, conduct an exciting style of play, are top-notch recruiters, won't break the bank and will win big immediately.

The legit coaches and the up and comers are going are going to cost quite a bit of money so it really comes down to what the CoC is willing to spend on the next coach. This would be a good conversation to pick up in late November when the season wraps up and jobs start coming open.

Glad the meeting was a success and that the other coaches were there. Always liked Kenny Hand when I lived in Hou-town. Did JJ address anything about 2013 recruiting and how he was going to get a top level class?

That's always easy to say. How many of those guys were merely contacting SMU to:
1) Create external interest in order to leverage a new deal at their current school or
2) Searching for a new landing spot as the posse was closing in on them at their current location.

Some of those were BCS head coaches from what was said.

Some? Could be anywhere from 2 to 24 and I'd bet it was closer to 2.

The legit coaches and the up and comers are going are going to cost quite a bit of money so it really comes down to what the CoC is willing to spend on the next coach.

Top coaches are now in the $3M+ to $5M+ salary range. Unless the CoC is willing to expand significantly and/or dig much deeper, that's a huge leap from what SMU currently pays.

June pretty much said that they were making inroads in Texas and that the recruiting services are overrated - run by guys who spend too much time on the computer and never played etc. Not a lot of new stuff really - that we are getting bigger and faster players now (DBs for sure) that we couldn’t get 3 years ago. One quote was that it’s been shown parents pay the services so their kids get stars or something to that effect. June bases a lot of his recruiting on relationships built over the years and for example reiterated about Trent Dilfer and his regard for Burcham - June is extremely high on Burcham. He mentioned a case where they saw a 5 star who had signed with a BCS program on film (when evaluating someone else) that our coaches wouldn’t even have offered. My take is we need to see improved recruiting efforts but it’s not as dire as some think. And - Phillips will help. The Big East will help. Winning will help. Attendance will help. Go Ponies.
