No kidding...these are the same people claiming that we were going to the SEC a few months back. We're extremely lucky to be where we are after 20+ years of absolute futility....let's enjoy that and build on it without all of the delusion.
Honestly, even the SEC would at least make some sense 10 years down the road or so. They already have a foothold in TX, lots of SEC fans live in Dallas, it would be a direct shot at the Big 12, that could make some sense (maybe). But not really- at least not anytime soon.
The Pac-12, on the other hand, makes no sense whatsoever. I wasn't a geography major, but how far away is the closest team, 1,000 miles?? They have no foothold in TX as it is, and adding us and UH wouldn't give it to them, as far as TV markets go.

Lets be thankful we are in the BE. This time last year it looked like we might be stuck in a little known conference for some time to come. I really think the BE could turn out to be the best conference we could have chosen. As several have pointed out, we will have a better chance at winning, the exposure in the East is priceless. We should be able to recruit with the big boys. Our academics will be recognized over some other mid-western schools. More money coming in. It should help recruiting in other sports like basketball, swimming. tennis, etc., etc. If the conference will stay stable (with the new blood) this could be a GREAT conference for us. LOVE IT!
You think the Big 12 is trying to get Swarbrick in an attempt to lure Notre Dame to the conference?
Also, if he goes, does Orsini bolt for ND? I would imagine he would be in strong consideration- which would be a major blow to us, despite what some of the yahoos on this board say about SO, he's an awesome AD

Losing SO to ND might not be so bad. It would sure help us in trying to schedule them for fball in the future. SO has done a good job in many ways and has performed poorly in others. I would hate to see him leave at this point but I'm sure we could find a more than adequate replacement.
If we lose Orsini, who hires the replacement? If Turner is involved, I don't want to lose SO ever. I can't trust the man who kept Copeland around for so long to hire a competent replacement.
You're living in an alternative universe if you think it would be good for SO to leave SMU. Please, people, look at where we were when he came on board and where we are now. It's like going from Denton to the Bahamas.
In what ways has SO performed poorly at SMU, redpony? The only thing I can really think of is lack of marketing, but I think that may be more of a budget issue that's out of his control

Hopefully we will excel in the BE and either make the BE respected or we look respectable to be asked to join another conference. I think being with most of the teams in xii would be better for us traveling and everything. Needless to say, Im extremely happy that we are out of crap usa and in a AQ conference and the best basketball conference. Hopefully TCU wont get greedy and try to get rid of our rivalry to start up more with Baylor and other teams. The TCU-SMU game is by far the most anticipated game for all SMU fans.
From a TCU standpoint the rivalry will remain. If there is a disruption it would be a one or two year tops due to big 12 scheduling issues over the next few years. I don't see it happening. We get ramped up for it as well.
June is the best we will ever have or deserve. Orsini is the best we will ever have or deserve. We are living in the best time it will ever be to be an SMU fan. It's our Golden Age. It won't get any better! Hooray Hawaii Bowl! Hooray BBVA Compass Bowl! I have no higher aspirations because this is the best it'll ever get. Yippee!

You really trust RGT to hire another AD? God help us.
