I think some deify JJ to the point that he is beyond any criticism or concern. Couchem is absolutely correct in his comments. People have a right to be concerned.

I think there were some issues at QB this year- no one was complaining about the offense when we were 5-1 and hung 40 beating TCU, but then McDermott was hurt and his performance obviously suffered. After a month to get healthy, he played well in the bowl game.
I'm not sure what the alternative is- you want to fire June and pay him some massive buyout? Who are we going to get that's better? Ron Meyer isn't walking through that door...

Get a grip, the guy saved this program, no one else was crazy enough to take the job or had the name recognition to step in and do what he has in such a short amount of time. We're going to the [deleted] Big East next year. Think about that for a second. The Big East. What he's been able to accomplish in four years for the future of our athletic department and university as a whole has been remarkable, your "minimum set of expectations" be damned.

Other Reality:
1) 70 of 119 FBS schools play in a bowl game (58.8%).
2) SMU came within 1 yard, twice, of guaranteeing itself a bowl in 2006, and had the same record as June had when he got us to the Hawaii bowl in his second year, with a significantly higher limitation on recruits it could pursuit/admit. If there were the same number of bowls as there are today, we probably break our bowl drought in 2006. In 2005 we had 5 wins, also beat TCU, again, with significantly higher limitations.
3) June has never beaten Houston nor Navy, and hasn't beat UTEP once in El Paso
4) June is 4 for 12 in non-conference, two of those wins coming over FCS schools and one win over one of the worst teams in the FBS at that time, WSU.
5) CUSA is the 3rd or 4th weakest conference and yet June hasn't had a Top 10 passing offense yet.
6) SMU hasn't nearly matched the production of his Hawaii offenses, even in his most pedestrian years
7) We haven't admitted a single 4-star athlete we've signed
8 ) We haven't pulled in a Top 50 class despite being located in a Top 10 recruitment hotbed
Where you won't get an argument out of me is the fact that SMU would never have been considered for a BCS conference had it not been for our consistent 6-7 wins seasons and the commitment to winning that we showed when we hired June. But when I look above, I don't see "job well done", I see "work still left to be done" because we have a lot of sub-goals that we yet to accomplish, which we should have. I think June was the right hire at the right time and I'm glad he's our coach but he hurt our ability to recruit with how ASU was handled and when he did it (not the fact that he pursued it), turned in some real clunkers as far as game plan/prep at USM, Tulsa and Navy and hasn't shown a lot of vigor in recruiting. Count me concerned and hoping for improvement. You can damn my expectations all you want but I expect to beat Navy most of the time, Houston some of the time and UTEP always. SMU is/should be that good.
