I do not think I have ever witnessed a poorer rebounding team than what we have.

You aren't missing anything. SMU getting outrebounded by 32-16. Cotton and Williams clanking outside jumpshots. Frog, when he is not passing the ball to the other team, clanking the outside jumpshot. The only 2 SMU players balling are Rob and Jalen.

Other words: Same ol' sh*t, different color team jersey. Just glad there are only 8 more games until DOH hits the exit door.

Jalen is the heart and soul of this team....we better keep that boy happy here at SMU.

C-USA basketball power rankings: Week 11
M.K. Bower

January 29, 2012
Perhaps it's a bit premature to refer to the midpoint of last weekend as Separation Saturday, but that's what it felt like after Memphis raced past Marshall at FedEx Forum and Southern Miss handed UCF its first home loss since Feb. 9, 2011. Combined with Wednesday losses by the Thundering Herd (at home to UAB) and the Knights (at Tulsa), the Tigers and Golden Eagles created some space between themselves and the presumed title contenders (excluding Tulsa, which won it's sixth in a row on Saturday). If Memphis completes the season sweep of Southern Miss Wednesday in Hattiesburg, more separation will be in the offing.

Let's get to the rankings.

1. Memphis (record: 15-6 overall, 2-0 last week; previous ranking: 1). The Tigers are one miraculous three-point play away from being unbeaten in C-USA. The victory over Marshall cemented their status as frontrunners with Will Barton delivering a career-high 29 points, Tarik Black coming alive with a season-high 19, and Memphis turning a late stalemate into an 83-76 win thanks to contributions from various players. It was a team effort to be sure.

2. Southern Miss (record: 19-3 overall, 2-0 last week; previous ranking: 2). It was a stellar performance by the Golden Eagles, who rolled into Orlando and snapped the Knights' 16-game winning streak at UCF Arena. Southern Miss continues to thrive of offensive balance with reserve guard Neil Watson leading the way in scoring against UCF with 23 points, the third time over the last six contests he's done so despite not starting a game this season.

3. Tulsa (record: 13-9 overall, 2-0 last week; previous ranking: 5). Let's go streaking! It took a while, but the Golden Hurricane appears to be rounding into the form prognosticators predicted prior to the season. Considering its defensive struggles during nonconference, Tulsa's turnaround during this run borders on the remarkable as opponents are averaging just 56.3 points. Guard Jordan Clarkson is shooting a robust 51.1 percent in C-USA action.

4. Marshall (record: 13-8 overall, 0-2 last week; previous ranking: 3). The bottom has fallen out on the Thundering Herd and things won't get any easier with roadies to Tulsa and UCF upcoming. Marshall continues to shoot the ball poorly in every phase whether from the floor (42.8 percent), behind the arc (30.2 percent) or at the free-throw line (60.2 percent). It's rebounding prowess (plus-8.9) helps only so much given the balance of C-USA.

5. UCF (record: 15-6 overall, 0-2 last week; previous ranking: 4). One week after recording their first-ever victories over Memphis and UAB, the Knights failed to notch their first win in Tulsa, and then had Southern Miss snap their 16-game home winning streak. Guards Marcus Jordan and A.J. Rompza combined to shoot 12 for 39 last week with nine turnovers against only nine assists in the two losses. UCF does own C-USA's lone win against the Top 25.

6. Rice (record: 12-10 overall, 1-1 last week; previous ranking: 8). The Owls are trying to hold on for as long as possible until junior forward Arsalan Kazemi finds some comfort in his ailing left knee. Rice was throttled at Memphis but made up for that defeat with a gut-check home victory that completed a sweep over Tulane with Kazemi hobbled (six points, seven rebounds) and junior guard Tamir Jackson suspended for his flagrant foul last Wednesday.

7. Tulane (record: 14-7 overall, 1-1 last week; previous ranking: 6). The Green Wave continues to scrap and claw without Kendall Timmons, but its defense against Rice was awful in allowing the errant-shooting Owls to hit 32 of 64 attempts. Tulane did stave off SMU at home, shooting 62.1 percent in a 63-point second half. Freshman guard Ricky Tarrant preceded his 18-point, 8-assists outing at Rice with a 33-point explosion against the Mustangs.

8. UTEP (record: 10-11 overall, 0-1 last week; previous ranking: 7). Blown opportunities are becoming a weekly occurrence for the Miners, who coughed up a 15-point lead at Houston and lost a shot at a sweep of the Cougars. UTEP led by double digits with under seven minutes to play and by four points with less than a minute left in overtime yet failed to hold on. C.J. Cooper had a 3-pointer at the end of regulation waved off by an official review.

9. Houston (record: 11-9 overall, 1-0 last week; previous ranking: 11). Drubbed in El Paso on Jan. 7, Houston has Jonathan Simmons' 25-point, 6-rebound performance to thank for its comeback win. The Cougars turned the ball over just once following the intermission, a reason behind their shooting 48.9 percent and scoring 56 points after the break. Forwards Alandise Harris and TaShawn Thomas totaled 31 points, 24 boards and five blocks.

10. East Carolina (record: 10-10 overall, 1-1 last week; previous ranking: 12). The Pirates finally savored the sweet taste of victory, building a 17-point second-half lead before fending off a late UAB rally in Birmingham. East Carolina torched the Blazers' stingy defense, shooting a season-high 59.5 percent with four players reaching double figures. Senior forward Darius Morrow shouldered the load with 24 points (11-for-15 shooting) and six rebounds. Up next: a make-or-break three-game home stand.

11. UAB (record: 7-13 overall, 1-1 last week; previous ranking: 10). Following a stunning win at Marshall, the Blazers posted an equally surprising home loss to the Pirates. UAB made only three trips to the free-throw line. Despite being without second-leading scorer Jordan Swing at Marshall, the Blazers seized control with a 14-3 run midway through the second half and never looked back. Forward Cameron Moore averaged 17.5 points and 10 rebounds.

12. SMU (record: 10-11 overall, 0-2 last week; previous ranking: 9). With five losses in six games perhaps the Mustangs don't deserve the benefit of the doubt. Their defense was humiliated in the second half at Tulane, and at home against Tulsa the Mustangs shot just 36.4 percent in the second half of a 66-60 loss. SMU finished minus-14 on the glass. Texas transfer forward Shawn Williams is averaging only 6.8 points and 3.8 rebounds.

These rankings are not fair. We are the only team that does not get to play SMU.

A record of 10-13 and 2-7 in CUSA as of today....not a good sign. They could conceivably lose their last 8 games.
SMU would need to go 6-2 to finish above .500....ain't gonna happen. Memphis, Rice, So Miss and Marshall will clean up on these guys methinks and the other games are 50/50. A final regular season record of 13-18 looks like the end of the line for Doh.
