Can Rompola coach the Men's Team

Because Doherty cannot. At the very least, she could bring in her husband (Dement) to help sort things out.

I haven't been this depressed since I watched Channel 8 interview David Stanley during my freshman year. Now I know how the fans of the Washington Generals feel.

you must not have paid attention during the last year of Dement's tenure.

The team looks so lost that the 8th grade coach at HP would probably be a step up.

Rompola has her own problems...she gets no heat from alumni with mediocre W-L records and recruiting prowess, and she has immense work to do to come close to competing in the BE.

Rhonda could do a better job coaching the men's basketball team, than the current men's basketball coach.

I guess it all depends on expectations. Three sub-.500 records in 20 years must really stand out.

Totally irrelevant. I do not question her coaching but I fear the quality of her recruits is not up to Big East standards. This will be a hugh jump from Conf USA.

I wasn't planning on her sticking around for recruiting. Just want someone to finish off the season so I don't have to Doherty's charges look lost all the time.

So what's the problem in that area? We all know the benefits of the school and facilities. Not enough of a focus on recruiting? The lack of "star" recruiter? Staff composition?

I do not know. Her staff has been relatively stable over the years and has done a good job in recruiting Conf USA-mid major level talent. However, we don't compete for the top talent in the area, Texas or elsewhere. We do get some transfers from top level schools occasionally. I guess it is the same as men's football and basketball, we need to go head to head with the majors for top talent and win a lot of those battles, if we are going to compete in the Big East.

I have read several reports that suggest the incoming class marks a considerable step up in talent. Hopefully that trend continues. The fact that her team is three games over .500 with a limited roster and has won five of its last six games suggests she is still one hell of a coach - as does the fact that she has won more games than any coach in any sport in SMU history.

No doubt she is a great coach and one of SMU's top assets.
