Question re: JUCOs

Postby ponyinNC » Mon Feb 06, 2012 1:26 pm

Just curious to see if we ever get guys that we recruited after they finish JUCO...

Some of those guys that were highly recruited by us go JUCO and we never hear from them again - Coulter, Franklin, Braylon Williams, Ricky Collins, Sutton, Thorton, etc.

I'm sure grades are still an issue with many of these guys, but have we ever gotten one of our own back? Do we stay in touch with "our" guys when they are in Juco, and do we re-recruit them?

Thanks.

I'll take the radio silence as a resounding "no"

I don't know how much effort is put into them due to SMU's academic requirements. I wish we could get some of them though. The state schools always do...

I think in most cases a coach would rather have a kid for 4 to 5 years and develop him as get one for 2 years. JUCO's are usually players that can fit a weak spot. For example, if we were hurting because of injuries or bad recruiting at RB the JUCO market is a good place to get a matured RB. Nonetheless, just because SMU was interested in a kid that couldn't make grades as a freshman doesn't mean that SMU will still be interested in him with 2 yrs. to play (instead of 4).
