Memphis to the Big East
"Memphis and the Big East Conference are in the final stages of negotiations to make the Tigers an all-sports member of the Big East beginning in 2013, college football industry sources told CBSSports.com.
The Tigers would join the Big East with three other Conference USA members - Houston, SMU and UCF - for the 2013-14 school year. The Big East also will add Boise State and San Diego State as football-only members in 2013 and Navy in 2015.
When contacted by CBSSports.com's Gary Parrish about the move to the Big East, Memphis athletic director R.C. Johnson declined comment. An official announcement of the Tigers' move to the Big East could be made as early as this week, sources said.
While the addition of Memphis is for all sports, the Tigers’ would help offset the future losses of men’s basketball powers Syracuse, West Virginia, Syracuse and Pittsburgh."

I wonder if that's why they're #4 in recruiting. Someone was talking!

Re: Memphis to the Big East
As much as they suck at Football, this is great for the long-term viability of the new Big East because of Memphis' hoops program. I like this.
Some people simply forget just how bad it was...
Re: Memphis to the Big East
Maybe this appeased lville and Cincinnati and solidifies longterm viability

Time for us to start acting like a big boy basketball program. Let's dominate local recruiting and show them a little bball Texas style.

Sounds good. Will also enjoy beating them senseless each year in conference play in football.

Re: Memphis to the Big East
I think this is a very good move. We all know Memphis is a bball giant and even though they are extremely down in football, that program can be turned around with the right people in place....similar to our bball program.

Re: Memphis to the Big East
they need an on-campus football stadium. Hopefully they promised one in the presentation.Personally would have preferred Southern Miss which has had a strong football program for 2 decades but I know why Memphis got in first

Is there a safe part of Memphis? Everytime I go there I feel like I need to go in an armored car.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Memphis to the Big East
Personally, I don't think the Big East will stop at a 12 team league. Since Memphis is now the 12th team, I think at least 2 more teams will join the Big East.
