Question regarding 2012 recruiting class
Historically, near as I can tell, this ranks as Jones' second best class at SMU. Am I wrong? That puts it as somewhere like a top 3 classes in last 10 years, doesn't it? Bennett's second class being the only one that would be comparable, I would guess.
Honestly, I avoid following the day to day recruiting news because I refuse to involve myself in the decision-making process of a hormone raged teenage boy. Not that I don't agree that recruiting is critical to a team's success, I just prefer to look at the class on signing day.
This is a legitimate question. I am trying to get a gauge on this because I am aware of "star inflation" by rivals.

Re: Question regarding 2012 recruiting class
I would imagine this class is pretty solid. After the recent resurgance and bowl appearances the momentum is there. I happen to agree that the rating system is a crap shoot at best.

The star gazers on here will lament that this is a crappy class, but I think there's some guys in it that have the potential to be really special: Burcham, Richard, Neroes, and Stewart to name a few

Re: Question regarding 2012 recruiting class
A few nice prospects but on the whole this is June's worst class since his first class in 2008. Nereos and Richard look like they could be special LB's. Burcham is intriguing and will hopefully get a chance to redshirt and learn the offense once Gilbert is gone in a few years. Jones and Mason have raved about the athleticism of Nick Reed but it makes you wonder why he had only two offers (Arkansas State and SMU).
The two guys who are really promising IMO are Daijuan Stewart and Colin Lagasse. Stewart is an absolute speed demon and had some serious offers. Thankfully we were in on him early and he stayed loyal to his commitment. He has a chance to be a dynamic playmaker in this offense. Lagasse, however, reminds me of a poor man's Ryan Swope. Swope killed us in the A&M game on those swing passes where he was isolated out on the edge against our corners. If you watch how Lake Travis used him in their passing game its much of the same. He isn't the fastest or shiftiest kid you've ever seen, but he just keeps moving the chains. We can certainly use a guy like that.
I'm disappointed we were not able to attract any real immediate impact on the OL other than Seaver Myers. Hopefully we have some kids buried on the depth chart who can contribute next year or Gilbert will think the beating he took at UT was a walk in the park.

Back off Warchild seriously.

Re: Question regarding 2012 recruiting class
If you get 3-4 big time contributors from any class, that's about as good as it gets. Even monster programs like Alabama, LSU and Texas hope for that kind of success. The difference is that they've had 5 years worth of 3-4 successes/year so they have 15-20 big time players on their roster and pretty solid guys filling in everywhere else. I think Neroes, Dieter, Holloway, Stewart, LeGasse and Meyers all have the ability to be those for us. Everyone else has good measurables and make our team overall bigger and faster.
