PonyFans.com VIDEO: WRs coach Jason Phillips

Post by PonyPride »

New SMU wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Jason Phillips sat down with PonyFans.com to discuss his new job, his relationship with June Jones, what he looks for in his receivers, what he expects on the recruiting trail and how close he came to coaching at SMU four years ago.

Enjoy!

Very excited to have Jason Phillips on the Hilltop. Best wide receivers coach in America –- you gotta love the attitude!

Jason is a very glib, direct honest coach and will be a great recruiter here at SMU!

Lookout because our starting 4 receivers might look like a 400 meter relay team in a couple of years. Sounds good to me.

Excellent interview. Very articulate-obviously not his first time at the Rodeo-the answers flow easily which I'm sure makes him a very effective recruiter and coach

How about introducing some no huddle, hurry up sets and QB draws with Wimbley the lead blocker ... get some of the big body receivers -- Holleman/Dieter -- to block down field to spring the speed of DJ/Thompson (all things UH were awesome at) ... I think I might be more excited about JP as a coach than recruiter ...

Impressive. Offensive side of the ball needed some young blood and receivers desperatly needed coaching for the last 4 years. Nothing like playing the position, coaching it and having confidence and passion for your job. Now....will June hand him the reigns? Maybe you can teach an "old dog" new tricks!

and from the looks of these videos, the practice field neighborhood that JP was used to will be much improved at SMU ;-)

JP could definitely be head coach material when JJ's tenure is up.
