Help with a bet...

Post by JayhawkPony »

A guy I work with is in a bet to rank eight recruiting classes next year. He and I debated it, and here's where we settled on for 2013 (per Rivals):

Tech 33
A&M 10
Kansas 40
SMU 39
TCU 37
Houston 42
Baylor 41
Arkansas 14

Any thoughts on ones that should move +/-?

Arkansas may be a bit high and Houston may be a bit low. TCU might be a bit low as well.

What is this based on BE membership?-You guys are in for a big wakeup call if you think that's going to make that kind of difference. we've got the wrong staff to accomplish that type of finish

Based on several factors:

1) BE.
2) Pissed off alumni that are applying more pressure
3) JP
4) A large class

For what it's worth, we changed SMU to 43, but I'm guessing it's either around 40 or around 65 based on JJ's true intentions for coaching at SMU after 2012 (but nothing in between).

I would target being in the cusp of top 50, +/- 5.

I agree. We need some recruiters right now.

I think you guys are right. A top 50 SMU class would make me ecstatic next year. #39 and I might pass out.

As for the rest TCU is too low, they will do better. A&M actually may be right on. Now that they have the "SEC" tag I don't think that's an unreasonable number

I can only speak for Baylor, but #41 would be disappointing for us. We finished in the recruiting rankings this year at #25 (247sports), #30 (Scout), and #43 (Rivals) recruiting off of a 7-6 year. Next year we will be recruiting off of a 10-3 season with a Heisman trophy and have two great commits already. If we finish #41 it will be a failure for sure.

Sorry but Baylor peaked this year in recruiting. They won't be coming off such a good year, IMO, anytime soon. Let's face it, they're losing a guy who will go in the top 5 in the NFL draft, or potentially go right after Luck. You don't lose a player like that and expect to improve on the field the following year. The field success helped in recruiting, as it always does, and the field success next year I think will go down. 40 range in recruiting appears reasonable.

Y'all do realize that you recruit based the year prior right? Most of our commits came well before the Heisman and ten wins. 2013 looks to be stellar, but if we do play horrible then we risk losing commits.
