UH Note
Claude Mathis from DeSoto High School who took a UH assistant job-apparently had a change of heart saying the timing wasn't right. Its unclear whether he is going back to DeSoto-but they have talked. Apparently decision to take him back has been tabled. I wonder if he'd like to stay in the Metroplex. Of course, June may not have heard of DeSoto High School.

Re: UH Note
Now that would be an interesting hire and I think well worth it for SMU.

not sure what it is, but something else going on here. You dont announce a big hire like that and all of a sudden everyone is heading for the hills. we might not know - but it isnt just change of heart.

Maybe he couldn't pass his NCAA recruiting test

It happens. I remember the Creighton BB coach that went to Arkansas. Stayed about 24 hours and screamed "Let me out of here". Culture shock can get you. I would live in Dallas in a second but could never live in Houston. Others are just the opposite, and some just don't mind at all.

I will never forgive Bill McCartney for taking the SMU head coaching job and then changing his mind.

He would have bailed to join Promise Keepers long before he got anything turned around here.

McCartney was a nut. I don't know if the administration would have given him the support that they refused to give to Gregg and those that followed him, but I think it is a blessing in disguise that he changed his mind. A true flake.
