5 Players Failed Feb 1 Drug Test
http://www.star-telegram.com/2012/02/16 ... d-feb.html
Five TCU football players tested positive for marijuana and failed a Feb. 1 drug test initiated by coach Gary Patterson, a source told the Star-Telegram. Another 11 had trace amounts within the margin of error, the source said.
Marijuana was the only drug detected. Eighty-six players were clear.
Patterson ordered the tests after a recruit complained of drug use by players and turned down the Horned Frogs' scholarship offer, sources have said.
On Wednesday, arrest warrant affidavits quoted players as saying 60 to 82 players likely failed the test.
It's unknown whether the four players arrested in Wednesday's drug bust -- Tanner Brock, D.J. Yendrey, Devin Johnson, and Ty Horn -- were among those who tested positive, but Brock told an undercover officer that he failed the test, according to the arrest documents.
A second source, a former player, said that the numbers quoted in the affidavits were exaggerated.
"There was definitely a small group of guys using weed but nothing more than that," he said.
"I think weed in general is prevalent on college campuses. A lot of students look at it just like alcohol."

Urine tests can't detect THC much longer than 7 days after use. Blood, even less so. Hair, that's where it's at (>90 days).

Ha! Probably right.
I also wonder how "secret" it was. Any chance there was a heads-up a few days prior?

Hmmm.
I'd like to give TCU the benefit of the doubt.
Perhaps someone was on the ball with manipulating the test or the results.
In any event, this should be enough to clear Patterson.
Moving along...

I know if this was another school we'd have some fun with this and TCU knows that other fanbases talk about this for years. I wanted to say that we appreciate that a lot of you have given Patterson and most of the program the benefit of the doubt about the players being tested. We are very embarrassed, shocked, and mad that these kids. Brock was supposed to be an All American this year, he messed up his life forever and all for an $50 a week. Stupid. Again thanks and yes now I'm eating crow

It was completely at random, no advance notice.

Re: 5 Players Failed Feb 1 Drug Test
Name the players and suspend them.
Drug use is common on all college campuses, but the problem is only going to grow unless we, as a society, do something about it.
It's inexcusable that the players weren't immediately suspended by Gary Patterson.

I agree but every football program as drug policy on suspending players. If you test positive once then you get a slap on the wrist = running, but if you test positive twice then you get suspended for 3 to 4 games. I'm assuming that SMU has the same policy, SMU might be different but I'm just assuming. I read that TCU's policy is the norm in the Big 12. David Uben wrote about it but i will provide the for those that will doubt my word

If it was a cover up then TCU won't have called the news before the arrests and annoucing it to the public. Everything was wrong but one thing the admin did was not sweep anything under the rug, I can't fault them for that. We wish it wasn't so public but it is what it is.

Link to football programs drug policies. The Big East is included too. Test positive once and no action is taken for a lot schools. Take what you want from it but if a kid tests positive twice I say suspend for 6 games, I think you all would agree.
