Pro Career: Selected by Arizona in sixth round (190th overall) of the 1999 NFL Draft … played in all 16 games in 1999, spent the entire 2000 season on injured reserve following reconstructive knee surgery, then played in 13 games last year.

2001: Played in 13 games, primarily on special teams … inactive for three outings … admirable return from reconstructive knee surgery showed little or no effects … posted four solo tackles, 4 assists from scrimmage, and 11 tackles with 50 'blocks' on special teams … outstanding game on special teams at Chicago (Oct. 13) with two tackles, a forced fumble, and three blocks … nailed Chicago returner Glyn Milburn on opening kickoff of second half with fierce hit as the ball popped loose and Zack Walz recovered at the Chicago 30-yard line … contributed to 17–10 win over Dallas (Dec. 23) with three tackles from scrimmage, one tackle and six blocks on special teams … added two tackles from scrimmage, one solo stops on kick coverage units, in 30–7 win at Carolina.

2000: Suffered severe knee injury in preseason outing at Minnesota (Aug. 18) … stepped awkwardly in pass coverage, appearing to catch right foot in seam of second-base sliding insert on artificial surface in Metrodome turf … sustained torn anterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments in right knee … underwent reconstructive surgery on month date … the turf also claimed two teammates to season-ending injuries—cornerback J.J. McCleskey (fractured right ankle) and wide receiver Rob Moore (torn anterior cruciate ligament in left knee) … placed on the injured reserve list on Aug. 22.

1999: Concluded rookie season as team leader with 77 “blocks” on special teams, added 17 tackles on kick-coverage units … appeared in all 16 games … three solo tackles in kick coverage in season-opener at Philadelphia (Sept. 12) … fine special-teams outing in 14–3 win vs. N.Y. Giants (Oct. 10) with four solo tackles and forcing fumble by Giant returner Amani Toomer in the fourth quarter that rolled out of bounds leaving Giants in possession … five blocks on special teams and assisted on muffed punt recovery by teammate Mario Bates vs. Washington (Oct. 17) when he drove Redskin Darryl Pounds backwards and the ball bounced off the back of his leg … added three solo tackles on special teams in 34–24 victory at N.Y. Giants (Nov. 28) … registered on the defensive scrimmage ledger vs. Buffalo (Dec. 19) with a solo tackle and hurry … one solo tackle from scrimmage with extended playing time in second half at Atlanta (Dec. 26) … concluded rookie season with two tackles on special teams at Green Bay (Jan. 2).

College/Personal: Mainstay in the Southern Methodist secondary … expanded his role as senior in 1998 by also performing as a wide receiver in addition to handling return chores … all-Western Athletic Conference (W.A.C.) first-team selection in ’98 at cornerback with 66 tackles (51 solos), 2 interceptions, 1 sack, and 1 tackle for loss … team-high five fumble recoveries, caused another, and led squad with 15 pass deflections … returned six punts for 32 yards (5.3-yard average), caught six passes for 80 yards (13.3-yard average) and a touchdown, and rushed four times for 79 yards (19.8-yard average) and a touchdown … impressive all-round effort vs. Nevada-Las Vegas with 4 tackles, 3 deflected passes, 1 rush for six yards on a reverse, 3 punt returns for 29 yards, and the game-winning 29-yard touchdown reception with 22 seconds left in 10–7 victory … Senior Bowl most valuable player for the south squad following senior season … recipient of the Project Tomorrow endowment, created by the Salvation Army Dallas County Advisory Board, enabling gifted youths to attend Tyler Street Christian Academy in his native Dallas … Class 2-A all-Texas selection as a high school senior with 35 receptions for 678 yards (19.4-yard average) and nine touchdowns … scored 80 points while making 75 tackles, 10 interceptions (four touchdowns), 3 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery on defense as a senior … also a standout basketball player, averaging 18 points as a senior for the two-time state champions … four-year letter winner in both football and basketball … member of the National Honor Society … won his school’s math and science award … advertising major at Southern Methodist … recipient of the 1989 Dallas Boy-of-the-Year Award from the Salvation Army … given name is Jacoby … wife Shandra … daughter Jaelah (Nov. 13, 1998) … born Feb. 7, 1977.
