Class of 2006 Phillip Burley

Postby Ponymon » Sun Jan 16, 2005 10:38 pm

While reviewing 2004 Texas Football magazine, I noticed that Phillip Burley (6-5, 200 lb) was a junior this year at District 13-2A Scurry-Rosser where our OL Kenard Burley also went to school. Is this his younger brother? If it is, do we have a shot at getting him? Texas Football said that the kid had 33 catches for 1,070 yards and 11 touchdowns as a sophmore. His picture is on page 311. He is also listed as one of the Top underclassmen in the state on page 52, which leads me to believe that he will be recruited for next year's class. ! Anyone have the scoop on this guy?

That's GOT to be Kenard's brother. How many Burleys can there be in a town that size?

And if that's the case, it's time for Big Brother to help his little brother make the right decision -- SMU.

Question is: will he grow out of the WR spot and into a TE? Hope not -- sounds like a great-looking WR prospect. And given his brother's size .... maybe he could grow into a 6'6" or 6'7" WR with real strength! Wonder how well he runs?

So he's huge and has put up some numbers (which are impressive, since I think I recall reading when Kenard signed that the school operates a run-first offense). Is there any reason we shouldn't offer the guy now?

just remember we are talking 2A Football. He's got to have the athletic ability-not just the numbers.

He was the only 2A player listed under Top Underclassmen in Texas Football and probably one of the few with his picture in the magazine.

there are many athletic 2A players. Every year...in football and basketball. Maybe the numbers are really high because of the competition...but they are still very good athletes.

Last year only 12 Class 2A prospects got Division 1A scholarships according to Texas Football- 3 to Big 12, 4 to CUSA, 3 to MWC and 2 to the Sun Belt.

Burley is mentioned in an article today on Rivals. He went to the SMU camp last year and wants to go to a lot of camps this year. He will be at the Nike camp at TCU on April 23rd. A good showing there could make him a national recruit. The article said that he had 11 touchdowns and over 700 yards last year. The Here are his vital stats:

Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 215 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.5 seconds
Bench max: 225 pounds
Bench reps: 5
Squat max: 425 pounds
Shuttle time: 3.9 seconds
GPA: 3.16

The question I want answered from this thread is how the he!! do we get the Nike Camp 2006?

What did TCU offer to receive this free marketing of their school?

Is it just a coincedence that A&M had one of their best recruiting classes in 2005-- and they held the Nike Camp in 2004?!

Anyone know if we've offered Young Man Burley yet?

How nice would it be to add this big fella and Clint Renfro (Southlake Carroll -- we're not on his early list, according to the recruiting sites)? Passing game might become downright formidable.

So far it doesn't look like Renfro is focusing on SMU according to Rivals. The article said Mel Renfro was his grandfather. HaHa! That would be Ray Renfro of NTSU fame and his Dad was Mike Renfro of TCU.

Rivals article today indicates that interest in Burley is picking up. Missouri, Texas-Tech, SMU, TCU and Arkansas are showing the most interest, with the Red Raiders and Mustangs leading the way. Burley hopes to attract more interest at summer camps.

He HAS to be at our camp again, and we need Kenard to really help his brother make this decision.
