Matt Wells is in his third year with the Golden Hurricane and will once again coach the tight ends. He also serves as Tulsa's recruiting coordinator.

Last season, Tulsa's tight ends were instrumental in the success of the offense. Wells coached all-conference tight ends Garrett Mills, who earned first-team honors, and Caleb Blankenship, an honorable mention selection. Tulsa's tight ends caught the most passes in the nation for tight ends with 89 receptions for 855 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Under his direction as recruiting coordinator, the 2004 incoming class was rated as the top-ranked class in the Western Athletic Conference by PrepStar magazine and Rivals.com.

Wells came to Tulsa after spending five seasons (1997-01) as an assistant coach at the U.S. Naval Academy. He coached the wide receivers for the Midshipmen in 2001, and before that coached the varsity fullbacks for three seasons (1998-2000). In 1997, Wells served as a service academy assistant coach for the varsity, assisting with coaching the quarterbacks and fullbacks.


During the 1998-2000 seasons, Wells also served as the head junior varsity coach and offensive coordinator. In his three years as JV coach, his teams posted an overall 20-2 record, including the first undefeated junior varsity season in school history with a 7-0 mark in 2000. Wells, who played his prep football at Sallisaw (Okla.) High School, recruited the state of Oklahoma in each of his five seasons at Navy. A three-year letterman at Utah State, Wells played quarterback for four years (1993-96), and was the starter as a sophomore. During his senior campaign, Wells also played free safety. A three-time All-Big West Academic selection, he was a member of Big West Conference Championship teams in 1993 and 1996. Wells, 31 (8-10-73), received his bachelor's degree in business marketing from Utah State in 1996. He and his wife, Jen, have a daughter: Jadyn.

Nothing magical about Tulsa getting Terrell Nemons. It was a package deal all the way...they offered his teammates John Godfrey (injured his leg during the season) and Clinkscales.

Signing day is not until Feb. 2nd, but to this point, we have been beaten by Tulane and Tulsa. I have been to that dumpster Tulsa calls a stadium a number of times. How we can lose qualified metroplex recruits to them, is totally unacceptable!

Why would we hire the guy from Tulsa as recruiting coordinator? I think the school should hire Stallion to be the recruiting coordinator and talent evaluator because he could do all of his recruiting and evaluation in front of his computer screen. Think of all of the money the school could save.

I stand corrected. They beat us on Moton Hopkins. We did really want him. We offered nobody else on their commitment list. I found out yesterday that the JUCO lineman from LD Bell has a really bad, blown up knee that he got in JUCO and schools backed off of him, including us.

If you are going to be fed info by the coaching staff at least get it right. Crevar is not a LM-he played QB and DB in HS. Moved to LB in JC. He hurt his shoulder not his knee and only missed 3 games. His coach said it was not serious and that he's still running 4.5s at 6-2, 215. Pretty good for a "blown out" knee don't you think?
