Patterson on what separates the Big 12 from the SEC
"There are a lot of good players every where else. If you look at the NFL per capita, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi they put out more NFL players than anywhere else in the country," Patterson told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "It's the body types in the regions of the United States that make a difference, too. You are going to find the skill players, but what we don't have as much in this state is the size of bodies of offensive and defensive linemen that the southeast part of the United States has. It's the gene pool."

Fatterson is welcome in Tuscaloosa anytime for a good old fashion butt whoopin'! Can you imagine the tantrum he'd throw after the game?
Major wish: SMU and Bama both destroying TCU in the same season!

Patterson is from a extremely shallow gene pool....
Re: Patterson on what separates the Big 12 from the SEC
I don't know. I remember a couple of years ago when Ole Miss beat TT in the Cotton Bowl Tech was BIG across the line - size wasn't an issue. Most people seem to believe that it's speed, especially on Defense, that separates the two conferences.
Having grown up and lived in both places, I can say that the deep south is simply fatter than Texas - that may be an issue.
Whatever. TCU will have problems competing in either conference.

After the next couple of years the little froggies may have wished that they had stayed in the BEAST instead of becoming one of bevos little beatches.

Patterson agrees:
TCU held a scrimmage on Saturday, and in what's become somewhat of a tradition, Gary Patterson is looking to light a fire under his underachieving defense.
"They ran around us, they ran through us, they threw it over our head," Patterson told reporters after the 30-minute scrimmage. "We'll give up about 50 points a game in the Big 12 if we play like I just saw us play today."

If an SMU coach made a comment about a "gene pool" the local media would be all over us to fire him/her.
Why the hell does Froggie High get a pass?

Shocking that he's stupid enough to say that. I heard Saban say a year ago that everyone has good skill people but that the SEC is loaded with NFL talent at CB and DL while the rest of college football is thin at those positions. Talked about how it limits your offense when the d can man up while 3 DL can put pressure on your qb

He should focus on what separates a bowl of fruit from a bowl of ice cream.

I hate to say it but Patterson is probably right.

Re: Patterson on what separates the Big 12 from the SEC
I vaguely remember a prof once saying that the reason the SEC linemen were so big was that they were descended from overseers and the running backs and wide receivers from field slaves. But I agree if JJ said something like that, he'd be skinned alive by the Dallas and National press.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Patterson on what separates the Big 12 from the SEC
I wouldn't put the overseers in that at all. Especially, if you look at players. I highly doubt that Brandon Moore nor Donald Hawkins descended from overseers.

Shallow, but definitely very wide.
